DVD menu screen problems

Kev W

Question

Hi,

In DVD creator 2010, the button outlines are not showing up! also the highlight feature is not working so you do not know which button is selected. It also looks as if on some menus they haven't completly loaded. All you see is the thumbnail screen and not the button outline. Can anyone help? I have tried running the install disc agin as a repair but with no joy.

Cheers Kev

Understand what you saying but could you supply a little more detail?

What sort of menu structure do you have?

What is the Menu Style?

What is the Button Style?

What button settings did you change?

Have you changed the Menu Background?

Do they work in Preview?

Do they work after burn in your PC or a Player?

Hi,

It seems to have affected all the buttons, the first button on the list is the signpost button but all you get is the centre part which shows the thumbnail. Its the same with all of them, there is one slightly further down with a white surround but the surround doesn't appear. Then I noticed that when you change background styles in the window when you click on a style not all the background and none of the preview buttons show. Again on the first one all there is on the right side of the screen which shows the preview of the menu is a black scren with the text. Also the button highlight doesn't work when you preview the menu before burning. I haven't yet burned a disc. I haven't changed any button settings, I had problems loading the software at the begining even though I had many previous additions. I even had to reload windows. This is my first muti-film menu disc since getting 2010.

Cheers Kev

Could you please answer the questions Jim asked? Your description above means absolutely nothing.

Hi,

Sorry if it made no sense! It seems that all my button choices are affected and all menu's. When i open MYDVD and select DVD option, I then choose the menu style I want. In the select menu style window the first thumbnail (Adventure) on the left side of the screen is highlighted and that should be previewed on the right side of the screen. All there is on the right side preview is black screens, the top one has text saying "your title here" and the bottom one "chapter menu" The small thumbnail on the left screen shows a beige background, palm tree leaves and a thumbnail picture with 2 people in it. It is the same with the next thumbnail "Arial view".

Agent 8 has got the full picture in the preview so if i select to use this as a menu and go back to the main screen to add a movie. I add my movie and the name of the movie appears on the tag and the first frame appears in the picture square. I don't like this so want to change the button, I use the first button in the button menu window which has a nice frame around it. I drag it across but although the button changes there is no frame around the mini screen that shows the thumbnail picture of the movie. This is the same with any button I select with a frame.

As for the menu structure I'm not sure what is meant by that, in all my other versions of Roxio or Sonic I have never had this problem before.

I hope this makes sense now but if you want more info. please let me know. It seems that some menus are better than others but none of the buttons that have a thumbnail view with some sort of edge or frame around, then this part of the button does not show. When you preview the finished DVD menu the button is not highlighted either or dosn't change when you select it. I haven't burn a disc yet as I didn't think it worth it if they don't show in the preview. It appears that the menu's have not loaded completely, is it possible to just download the menu screens? I know you could buy extra menu's at one time. I am reluctant to re-install the whole package as I had so much trouble loading it the first time.

Cheers Kev

This problem occurs when you have your render mode set to software. It has been reported to Roxio. Try switching to Hardware mode (under Tools/Option in myDVD)

Hi again, Just a quick thought on those changes, I'm sure I had a problem with jerkey playback in the previous version and was informed to change the render option to cure it, which it did. Will this have any affect on my DVD's now I'm using hardware setting? I will check back on previous threads.

Cheers Kev

Hi, Yes this was a problem in creator 2009 and Jim told me to change to software to cure this problem, so I hope I don't get that with creator 2010!!

You will have to run tests and see… Usually that happens in portions where there is moving objects (kars, kids, kites) or you are panning with the camcorder…

One other thing I have hit upon is that the menu button highlighting doesn't work right in SP or LP quality. They work in HQ.

Hi Jim, I'm filming the local panto soon so was hoping I could get this sorted prior to me burning the DVDs. I'm sure it will take more space on the disc than HQ will allow so it looks as though this will still be a problem when i come to produce the DVD. Especially as I was going to add a still photo slide show so would use more than one button.

Thank you so much! Your solution worked perfectly! I had basically the same problem Kev W had. I have spent hours and hours trying to figure out why, after clicking on "my dvd" I was unable to see the "menu" screen (where you type in the titles for menus for dvds) rendered correctly. I have been e-mailing back and forth with Roxio technical suppport. They tried to get me to update my video card driver, but I wouldn't do it because the only update available was a beta update and I didn't want to take a chance on that.

Many thanks again for solving my problem!
