Label Creator 2010 Problems Opening Old Projects

TJ353

Question

On a fresh, clean install of Windows 7 64bit, I installed Creator 2010 Pro and all seems to be fine EXCEPT Label Creator. I can create new projects just fine, but I cannot open projects created on 2009 or prior versions. All I get is a dialog box with: "An unknown error occurred while accessing an unnamed file" and my only option is "OK". I have seen other posts regarding Office 2007, and yes, I do have it installed. Also, I have installed the service pack as well. The Roxio Creator 2010 Pro build is: 121B93A ENU if that helps at all. Any suggestions?

I don't know of any way to export old .JWLs to the new system. :(

You might be able to install an older version in your virtualized XP, but that would be "interesting" as the XP VM in Win7 only emulates a CDROM. No burners!

I have run Label Creator 5.3.5.10 in Windows 7 by just dropping the label creator directory and its two subdirectories from a backup of ECDC 5 onto the desktop of Windows 7, and then making a desktop shortcut to CDLABEL.EXE. It handled .JWLs from ECDC 5 nicely, but I haven't tried doing a similar thing with any higher versions.

Thanks for the input! I may do some experimenting and if I have any luck I'll post my results here. Thanks again!

There was a change in Label Creator between EMC 10.0 and EMC 10.1 which broke backwards compatibility.

You cannot now use labels created by EMC 10.0 or earlier versions with EMC 10.1 or later versions.

Ok, well thanks! So, is there any way to "export" one from an earlier version on an older install up to something that the newer versions could read? Or am I just out of luck and have to re-create anything I need to bring forward? And/or can I install an older version of Roxio and still have it work on Win 7? Like, for instance, I am thinking i could install my old version on this actual machine OR install it in the virtual XP mode.
