Import Photo

fred_houlahan

Question

When I try to import a photo (I'm trying to use my scanner - HP Sacnjet 5370C) I get firstly "Roxio Media Capture has encountered a problem and needs to close" . The other message I get sometimes is "The instruction at "0x0416d590" referenced memory at "0x0416d590". The memory could not be read. Any any ideas?

I assume the scanner works fine with the included HP hardware but you can try to reinstall the drivers or look for updated drivers and see if that helps.

Thanks, Paul. The scanner works with all other programs and I have the latest drivers.

Is your scanner listed twice in Media Import? There are two different types of scanner drivers: TWAIN and WIA. Media Import seems to work better with the WIA drivers. If your scanner is listed twice, pick the first one.

Thanks, Gary. The problem I have is that when I click on the PHOTO tab, I don't get a drop down list. I get that message that the program has encountered a problem and has to shut down so I can't really check what you're saying. The scanner works fine with Photoshop , Picture Publisher and Microsoft Publisher. 'Tis a puzzlement!!

Not so sure Gary if the OP is running directX 9.0c if the new update from Mocrosoft will change anything with his scanner not working with EMC. I'm using a scanner with a twain driver and have no problems, but I do have directX 9.0c. But uninstalling and reinstalling might just help.

Practically ALL graphics within Windows is built on DirectX/Directshow APIs whether or not Roxio uses it or not. The SYSTEM does. As pointed out before, Microsoft has released 3 or 4 updates to DirectX 9.0c WITHOUT any number or letter changes. I'm certainly not going to try to second guess what is IN the updates. I have not problem whatsoever with Microsoft's Genuine Verification. I don't think anyone using a pirated version of Windows SHOULD be able to use the update.

Thanks again Gary and others. Updated DirectX - uninstalled and reinstalled - but no change. Strangely, I put EMC 7 back on my computer and it works fine. So I'll just have to do my importing into that program and do the other things in EMC 8
