Roxio Creator DE

michelle67

Question

I have:

Roxio Creator DE

Version: 9.0.117

Build: 901B17R, DL2

Serial Number:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Copyright: Sonic Solutions 2006

that came with my Dell Inspiron.

WHY CAN'T I USE AVI VIDEOS!!????????? It shows that AVI is supported, but obviously AVI is NOT supported with this version...

It won't let me run the update because it says I have the wrong version. Do I actually have Roxio Creator 9.0, or do I have a slimmed down version that does absolutely nothing I need it to do?

Is this not a "full" program? If not, and I have to buy an additional program, I will probably go somewhere else. This came with my computer, and I think I should be able to use an important feature like using avi videos in my DVDs...

Edit for serial #

It a castrated version of an old version of the program. You would have to check with Dell to determine if there are any updates or if your version handles AVI files.

What kind of AVI files are they and where did you get them?

Contact Dell. You didn't pay anything for your software!!!

If you purchase the new Creator 2010, you will have no problem capturing, then using your home video avi files.

<snip>

As stated above, you have a Version revised to the specifications of Dell.

You might try amazon.com or similar to get EMC 9 - make sure it doen't have any letters like DE at the end of the Version number.

Before getting EMC 10, Creator 2009, or Creator 2010, CHECK THE SPECIFICATIONS and compare that to yoiur computer (and those specs are extremely conservitive, written by sales rather than techs), so you know if it will run on your computer.

You have, as Steve Knis said, a castrated version of EMC 9. :( To rectify that you would need to completely remove your version and install a full EMC 9 if you can find one nowadays.

There's a fuller discussion of these versions HERE. You could do some of the same tests mentioned in post #2 on your version to confirm what's happened.

You may need to go elsewhere, since Sonic/Roxio seem to have abandoned support for DivX/XviD AVIs in their latest software, Creator 2010.
