lynn98109
WARNING NOT FOR MODEM USERS - 3.3 GIG FILES I don't think there's room for it on my 3.7GB HD, even if it could be downloaded @ 56k. I wonder how many websites will build for this monster, and become impossible for anyone without it? There are already a couple (eBay.com, for example) that don't seem to want to be accesable by anyone with Win98 SE. I have a backup computer with WinXP, but if forced to use it for surfing, I don't spend much time on the site (eBay.com, for example), anymore. golinux
Vista? No thank you. I had one of the Betas loaded for a while and was not impressed.

You sure it is Win98 causing the problem or your browser? I don't use IE. I have no problems using Seamonkey on eBay. I also have the latest JAVA, Flash and Shockwave. Neil - can you install Vista as a dual boot with WinXP? Just curious enough to check it out. LOL

LOL Gary, I dual boot for Vista although I do have it on a separate hard drive for obvious reasons. The most recent beta is much improved from the last 2. Picked up alot more of my devices. Still a long way to go but I'm starting to get use to it. Been playing with MCE but like my GB-PVR better.

The Highlander
I'm more curious about the X64 edition since I just purchase a new machine that could run it. Hi Gary, Paul is correct , you can duel boot easily, but there are still many little bugs (even in Beta 2) As far as I'm aware you can only duel boot Vista 64 bit if you have the Windows XP 64 bit on there, it will not do it with the 32bit version (open to correction if I'm wrong on this Paul?) i have had release 2 for a few weeks and it seems a way lot better than the previous releases, but i think it is similar to there release of Office Pro 2007 in the line that there is still a lot of bugs to rectify, but with the encoded error reporting system in IE7 and Vista and Office 2007 they will use the normal public to generate the error logs that get sent via the Internet automatically to sort out there smaller issues on so many types of hardware ect... This is why MS have released it to get that info from your systems. I Look forward to there final release when and if they get there act sorted, and when i can upgrade my mini to the rolls to let me run it the way it should be. PS: when you register this download they give you a CDKEY that lets you register it on up to 10 PC's or 10 actervations... fairly generous for MS
ggrussell
Hmmm... if it won't dual boot with the 32bit version, I would need a second hard drive that I can take out. LOL Good excuse to buy one. Guess I should stick with 32 bit. There really aren't any apps optimized for 64bit yet anyway.
Beerman
I don't have XP 64bit but from what I've read when I was given links to download betas, Neil is correct that you need XP64 to dual boot Vista 64.
REDWAGON
It's absolutely amazing to me that after all the hype of this new Vista system that they kept the same old colored flag as the Icon for the new system. I would have thought at least they could have come up with a new colored Icon for it Maybe in a year or so after the final version it's out and the regular users start evaluating it and I am in need of anothet new computer I "MIght" think about getting it. lynn98109
Sounds odd... You sure it is Win98 causing the problem or your browser? I don't use IE. I have no problems using Seamonkey on eBay. I also have the latest JAVA, Flash and Shockwave.Neil - can you install Vista as a dual boot with WinXP? Just curious enough to check it out. LOL I also have IE 6 on the WinXP, and no problems. Ditto 56k. It's possible it's the 256MB of memory (the WinXP has 3 times as much) or the 400MHz of processing (the WinP has 6 times as much). The last couple auctions I posted (with a freshly booted Win98 SE computer) I had to give up and go to the WinXP to finish. It'll freeze during the download of a long search, or take forever to downloaded the ghastly quantities of boilerplate used the the BIG SELLERS. Interestingly, my friend in Germany, with WinXP (his Win98 SE died and everything was replaced) and either DSL or Cable, also complains about the slow downloads of eBay - altho I have significantly less difficulty with eBay.de than eBay.com ... it's just, as long as I have to turn on the Beast for eBay.com, I do it all over there. When I posted my last auctions, half of my regular bidders had apparently disappeared (one of them, contacted directly since we've exchanged emails before, took most of the CDs that hadn't gotten bids). It also seems most of the small sellers have disappeared. What's left, at least in CDs, is what my friend in Germany accurately describes as "large dealers trying to sell the stuff that won't sell in the shops, at high prices". First Quarter sales were pumped up in February with the force-feed of store listings. That people trickled away in March was overshadowed by February. I'm darned curious whether Second Quarter sales will show what I seem to be seeing - like, splat. (My records indicate in past years, I've bought 7 to 10 CDs from eBay.com in the 2nd Quarter; this year it's 3 in the 2nd Quarter so far - and April & May are the big months for the quarter. If you don't mind being a bit picky, one was from Australia, one from UK, and the 3rd cost 99 cents.) Lynn
