Keep the Internet Free

I don't usually forward emails that I get asking to sign anything but I looked into one I got today and felt confident enough to drop it here. There are some that want to charge for use of the internet. What I found was "Congress is about to sell out the Internet by letting big phone and cable companies set up toll booths along the information superhighway. Companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending tens of millions in Washington to kill "network neutrality" -- a principle that keeps the Internet open to all.

The issue moving quickly through Congress would let these companies become Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow -- and which won't load at all -- based on who pays them more. The rest of us will be detoured to the "slow lane", clicking furiously and waiting for our favorite sites to download.

Don't let Congress ruin the Internet:"

So, if you feel confident, sign up.True Majority

EBay Marshals Members For Net Neutrality

The bottom tier -- the slow lane -- would be what is left for everyone else. If the fast lane is the information 'super-highway,' the slow lane will operate more like a dirt road."

Think about it. If the internet started with a charge, we'd accept it but it's always been free. I've been on broadband for 8 years now and I really already pay for it. But to start charging after being free for so long, I just don't find it fair at all. I think there will really be an uproar if any bill passes with this legislation.

Don't worry about it, Paul. Al Gore will take care of us. After all, he invented the Internet, and he will tend to matters once he has solved the global warming crisis. (Sarcasm intended.)

From the article you posted cdanteek, it sounds to me like the bill to "turn back the legislation" was defeated. If I read that right, that's not good. !!!

I'm always leary Paul about giving out that much information to any internet group (True Majority form) so I have declined to submit it but in the mean time I suggest that everyone send an e-mail to your legislators and let them know how we feel. And Neil asked a good question regaring how this would effect other parts of the world.
