problems burning to dual layer disc

tawa37

Question

I hava an HL-DT-ST dvd+rw drive and am trying to write to a dual layer disc as it it is the only way i can get this project on one disc. I keep getting errors such as a medium error or now I get an error like illegal request end of user area or something like that. I have tried two different kinds of discs (HP and Matrix DL discs) and have created quite a few coasters. I even got Dell to replace my DVD drive and it still won't work. I have an XPS 400 and am running EMC 8 with all the previous software programs uninstalled. I have tried to creat an image and using disc copier to write the image to the disc. I get to 13% and the error show up. When I try to write through MyDVD it encodes all of the video and menus and only gets part of it burn while it tells me that the disc is complete. I am beginning to wonder if I wasted good money on this and if it is worth it to go to another program. Any suggestions?

P.S. I have tried many different hotfixes and I still get the same errors

Has this drive burned Dual Layer before with success? There are several posts about the HL-DT-ST DVD+-rw drives and burn problems.

Since its in warranty trouble shoot with Dell. Have them check for a firmware update, check DMA mode on the IDE channel the drives on.

If it won't burn DL ask them to replace with different Brand drive! HL-DT-ST DVD+rw drive are LG drives, oem for Dell.

You could try this, make a ISO image and slow the disc burn down to 2x. (HP and Matrix DL discs) Verbatim DL +R disc's seem to be the best.

You could download IMGBurn a free ISO burn tool and see if it works try 2x, there is a test mode in it.

Thank you very much for the help. IMGBurn worked perfectly the first time. I think this is how i will burn dl discs until roxio has an update to fix the problem.

I doubt that you will see any update unless Roxio can reproduce the problem. That brand (or non-brand) of drive is know to have problems.
