where can i get an explanation of the custom crossfade?

I'm presuming you know how to access the custom crossfade window. What is it you want to know? Mostly it is just moving the markers and the center point. Clicking on the presets and previewing the crossfade give you a clue what happens with different adjustments.

i looks like a bunch of mishmash to me.

i would like a tutorial that would show me how to use it.

The attached is the Help file that explains how to use Jam 6 which has the identical crossfades window as does Toast 10. After downloading and unzipping this, open the Jam Help.htm file that is in the folder. You then can use Safari to browse the help. If you click the Browse link next to List of Topics you'll see several documents relating to creating crossfades.

 

Many of the other Jam 6 features are in Toast 10 as well. A few are not.
