Using copy and convert for iPod

Gormless

Question

Anyone know why when you convert a DVD to iPod it never stops? The original file was 5GB but Copy & Convert got it up to 50GB and was not stopping. I did try again with a different source of 6GB and this time set it to a bitrate of only 500kbp to see what would happen but once again i gave up when it got past the 30GB mark.

It is obviously a bug so does anyone know a work around or a fix?

You aren't alone, on the filling of the hard drive, evidently. Here are a couple others having the same problem:

I believe that 2 of the folks, with the problem, had Microsoft Office 2007 on their computers. Do you have that on your computer?

As i have tried multiple source files i fail to see how that can be the problem. I will repair the program but as it is only a 3 day old install i will be very surprised if this fixes anything.

I could well have been a bad install if you didn't prepare your computer for the Roxio program (all normal precautions and installed it with the anti-virus on or paused rather than off.

Where did you get the files? What format? You said DVD first. Are they commercial DVD or are they videos that might have DRM protection?

I just tried it with mpg2 file formats and they were converted quickly. I'll try directly from a disc.

Edit: I selected one of the mt2s files on an AVCHD disc; the file size was 544.8 MB. The first thing that happened is that I got a window saying it was remuxing the file, then caching the title. I could preview it on the left side (no audio). On the right side, the preview was only 4 seconds of the video with audio. I selected IPod (automatic not custom) and it finished with a file size of 30.5MB.

Pretty much what I would expect.

So: 1) Source files or 2) Bad install.
