Transitions and Text

Cranky1

Question

I am creating a 170+ photo slideshow. I created a text slide in the very first slide. The text shows up in the next 3 slides. I have changed the duration of the slide but that doesn't help.

When I add transitions, the first photo shows up in the next 3 slides. If I remove the transitions, the slideshow is OK. I WANT to be able to use transitions.

I have done that -- the previous picture (slide) remains as a background picture (slide) when the next picture (slide) comes in place.

I have noted that some people in the discussion group indicate that dowloading NVIDIAdriver 182.50 will help but according to NVIDIA Support that is not supported by Windows 7. I downloaded and installed Roxio pxengine4_18_16a.zip yesterday as it was suggested on discussion group and then proceeded to create a new slide show after rebooting. Same problem. My graphic card, NVIDIA 1.8 Geforce GTX 260. Does this graphic card support Roxio 2010.

I go into Roxio, create slideshow, have to choose a Main Menu set up, then click continue and begin adding photos. After adding all the photos, I add my audio. I never change any of the settings. I save the project, go out and then return in the edit version so that I can add text slides.

Our video card driver has been updated. We updated Creator 2010 as well before we started to use it.

I have tried to update my Ticket History on Roxio Support but do not get a reply. I don't even see my Reply posted. It is very frustrating.

Your description of what you are doing is very vague. "I go into Roxio", "create slideshow" could mean lots of things. Why don't you accurately state what programs/buttons you are selecting  ?

If by "create slideshow" you mean you are using the "Slideshow Assistant" wizard then that is the wrong way to create a slideshow. That program is a dumbed-down feature for nothing but the simplest slideshow.

You should be assembling you slideshow in Videowave

Have the text problem worked out but the pictures in the background of the next slide is still there. If I take out all the transitions, the slide show is OK. If I put in even 1 transition, the background picture returns. We have 1.8 GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260 Graphic card which has been updated. We updated the Creator 2010 before using it to create this slideshow.

If Creator 2010 has transitions available, why can't I use them?

Why not start a new small project with only a few slides and make note of the exact steps you are taking. Then list these steps here and we can try and duplicate. I have never experienced what you are seeing.

What do you mean by background picture?

That is a very good question to ask NVidia. It is a recognized problem with NVidia cards and their new drivers. Did you read the information about the NVidia card drivers and rolling back to an earlier driver version?

My Desktop has an icon named Roxio 2010 which appeared after installation. I click on that and the screen that appears has these icons -- Burn Data Disc, Burn Disc Image, Copy Disc, Burn Audio CD's. Edit Video - Advanced, Copy/Convert Video and Create DVD's. To the left are Data Copy, Video Movies, Music Audio, Photo and Learning Center. None of the ones on the left side seem appropriate. I choose Create DVD's. That takes me to a screen where I have to choose a type of disk so I choose DVD. A new screen comes up and I choose to change Menu Style. After the Menu is created and on that same screen, I can click Add Slideshow. I click on that and then I can begin to add my photos and then my audio. My slideshow is complete and I click on OK. then click on Next. This brings up the Transition Style so I choose a Style. I do not change any of the default information. I click Finish, go to Save As and my project is done. Now I can go into the Edit Video and put in my text slides.

I see nothing titled Slideshow Assistant. I see nothing about VideoWave.

Its time you became a bit more familiar with what those icons represent by clicking on them

Create DVDs=myDVD

Edit Video- advanced=Videowave

The Slideshow Assistant opens up when you clicked on "Add Slideshow" - the window that opens is labelled "Roxio Slideshow Assistant".

Sknis (post #9) and myself (post #3) already mentioned above about the problem with nVidia card. Check out this discussion and the workaround.

I tried those things --- NVIDIA 182.50 is not compatible with Windows 7. When I found the discussion group about this, I was accussed of hijacking -- just wanted everyone to know that NVIDIA told me 182.50 IS NOT compatible with Windows 7 and save some people grief.

I changed nothing in the default screens. As for Roxio, we finally have been in contact with Customer Care again. I quote Customer Care, "As for the background pictures staying when the next one is displayed, it is a glitch we have no fix or knowledge for, at the moment."

They suggest we do a clean uninstall so that is our next step.

As for rearranging the pictures in VideoWave, I had already tried to move them by dragging.

Thanks for your help.

When you start a new Videowave project, do those background pictures appear right away before you add anything? Or at what point?

Are those pictures some that you are/were using in your project?

Edit Video- advanced=Videowave

When it says EDIT VIDEO why should I assume it means VIDEOWAVE. All I have to go by is what the icons actually say and that is EDIT -- I have not created anything to EDIT. First you CREATE and then you EDIT. I will attempt to use Edit Video and we will see what happens.

OK --- I started Production 1 in VideoWave and got the same results --- this time there were several pictures stacked in the background. Also, I could not move the pictures around and place them in the order I wanted them. Didn't get to put the audio tracks in one right after the other like I could when I created it in my DVD. This is not an easy software program to understand.

You are correct on not assuming. Most of the folks, who post here often, know the names by VideoWave, MyDVD, etc. We have tried for the past 2 versions, to get Roxio to either change the names back to what they should be, or putting the correct name under their lame headings. As you can see, they don't listen. :(

If you want the text to apply to only one panel, select the panel then click on Internal tracks and add the text now then switch back to the main tracks. The text will now only apply to this panel

Remove the current text from the text track. If you put text on the overlay track, it will show up in all images that its duration span to.

In Timeline mode, select the image. Then select to add text on the menu above the preview. Edit your text. In this method, the text will just show up in this image only.

Regarding your second question, leave the transitions on and change render mode to Software(Tools|Options and select Software). Do you have nVidia video card? What model do you have and what version of the driver is installed? The latest driver is reported in several posts in this forum to have caused the type of problem you described.

Tried to create in Internal Tracks but the text is still there in the next few slides.

Video card is NVIDIA geforce GTX260 - 1.8 GB

We installed the new driver for 2010 when we installed the Roxio program.

I don't know how you are trying to move around the pictures. Its a very simple process: select storyline, select a photo using the mouse, drag it to a photo and drop it. All the photos move to the right and the new photo is inserted. Its similarily simple to add audio clips to any of the audio tracks or place one audio track after the other.

The standalone videowave works exactly the same as the one in myDVD. If these features are not working for you then there is something wrong with your setup.

How did you get any pictures into the background, which by default is blank?

Did you remove the text from the main tracks as Malatekid suggested? If not then they will of course continue to show up
