Audio transfer and output problem

BobHa

Question

Having just returned from a long holiday I have approx 1200 video files taken on a JVC Everio downloaded to backup files using the JVC software provided, Cyberlink PowerCinema. The files are accessable and will run fine using Windows media player and many other programs, they are MPEG-2 and play fine including the audio.

I purchased Roxio 2010 to assemble the videos into a suitable production I find that whilst the video works well ( VideoWave) I cannot get the native audio to transfer and play at all. Having now tried many options including contacting Roxio and spending many hours searching this site there does not seem to be any solution, can anyone please help ? Should I dump Roxio and go to Adobe ? This is a real disapointment and very time consuming for a very simple project.

Note: As I have not yet been able to complete a production I am now very unsure how it will transfer and play from DVD !

Bob, I'm nor sure who is not reading. In the post above your last reply, asked if you had Creator 2010 OR Creator 2010 Pro. You never replied before you started your rant.

Take a deep breath, realize that you need us more than we need you and start again. Remember that we are not Roxio Tech Service or even employees. If you don't think this program is an easy to learn video editing program, send it back. Or better still, download and try some of the free trials of video editing programs in the same price range and then come back to ask questions and read the answers.

I'm originally from PA so no snide remarks abou t Texans !

Having originally asked for support from Roxio (incident) with details of the problem I had assumed, incorrectly it now seems, (follow up) that I was communicating with a Roxio tech, if as you have now indicated this is not the case then I apologize.

I did not have a problem in learning the the editing program, only that it did not seem to have the capability or guidence to transfer video files complete with the native sound into a production.

I have never tried and do not intend to use free programes, that was the reason to purchase Roxio for what I had assumed (incorrectly) to be a 'simple' project.

This site appears to be run by Roxio so I am left even more confused !

Roxio supplies the $$ to keep the site up; users supply the knowledge.

Have you looked at the Learning Center at the bottom Home page? There are some good things there.

karri made a bunch of good beginning videos here.

I made a couple that got into some specifics here.

karri's and mine are for earlier versions but the basic functions are the same.

After you watch them, come back and ask your question again.

In the mean time, download and run gspot (poor name) on the files to see what audio codec is used. All you have to do is drag the file to gspot and it will do its thing. gspot will also tell you if you have the right codec on your computer. Some lower bit rates and mono inputs are sometimes issues. I asked about Creator 2010 Pro because that comes with an add on- Bias Sound Soap - that allows you to extract the audio from the files and save them as wav file. As wav files, they will work.

 I just bought Roxion2010 to help my daughter creat her reading video project but it gave me the same problem as yours. Luck for me the Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 finally cooperated and produced a great DVD for my daughter. I think I'm just going to return the Roxio 2010 since no matter what I did the native audio could not be heard when the video was playing. I'm considering upgrading to the Adobe Premiere Element 8. I hope you get to figure it out. Goodluck!

Did you perhaps use Cinemagic to create your DVD? If yes then that is not the program to use.

You really have not supplied much information in order to be able to help you.

You didn't mention wide screen issues but perhaps this capture program will allow you to get the video properly.

Download gspot codec information appliance and add the videos; what does it say about the audio?

Do you have the Pro version of Creator 2010? I think that Sound Soap is an answer (again if you have it.)

I did not have any issues with wide screen because I had not been able to have a successful trial with downloading the files including the audio, are you advising me that I will also have problems with 'WIDE SCREEN' with Roxio ! ??

Your response is very vague and really only confirms that the Roxio software does not have the capabilities to proccess video files from a camcorder (JVC) all be that it may possibly be of an unusual configuration and require add in's from additional web sites to function.

Please foregive me but I find that your response to be very high tech and not really in 'PLAIN ENGLISH' I guess that is because you are in your own comfort zone and are not able to 'step out' !

You have suggested that I should download a codec file from gspot and ask "what does it says about audio" I do not know because it again does seem very vague, perhaps you could consider advising me what it may say ? And give me just a little more advice, I did purchase the software from ROXIO not gspot !!

I did tell you in my enquiry that I had purchased Creator 2010, so I guess that I have the wrong version, but perhaps you missed that as well ??

I would really like to have your support in solving these issue in simple Plain English without all the time spent searching and downloading and configuring and changing and vague replies etc etc and perhaps just a little more straightforward guidence. I am not a 'guru' as it seems you are, I just have a very very simple video project to complete.

If you can't understand sknis's post you are going to have trouble trying to master Adobe…

If you like simple, then answer, do you have Creator 2010 or do you have Creator 2010 PRO?

Well, I should not be surprised at your negative response but at the same time very dissapointed.

Using patches from other websites to support what Roxio quote as "CREATOR MAKES IT EASY" does verge into the area of false trade description.

You also talk of being 'simple' and again, as sknis, did not read my postings, as in the fifth paragraph and for the third time CREATOR 2010.

I asked for support for Roxio software but it has been a poor experience.

I will try not to be negative !

1.The learning centre is not available: 'Error returned. Do not have permission to use this feature' Have tried many times and searched for a solution without any success !!

2. Karri's seems ok for learning but does not provide a means to transfer the video with sound !

3. Your's also does not provide a solution.

4. Have downloaded gspot and it tells me that the audio is AC3 ? What next ?

This is proving to be very time consuming, I am not lost for words but have censored them out.

The reason that I asked if you had the PRO version is that the PRO version has Bias Sound Soap as an add-on. With that you can extract the audio to a wav file and then add it back in.

If the learning center is not available (bottom of the Home page), you have a bad install which could be part of the problem. The AC3 codec should be available. Some people just don't get sound with some video formats even with a good install.

Start looking at free converters or look at other software that will handle your JVC files. If Adobe handle them, great. I have three different video editing programs; I use each for their specific strong points. I keep coming back to Roxio for ease of use and it s logical work process. Here are some options. If you got Creator 2010 directly from Roxio within 30 days you have a $$ back guarantee. I hope this thread hasn't run so long that you missed that 30 day window.

By the way, read this re: Learning Center and other applications in Creator 2010.

Many thanks for your wishes.

Having spent hours and days trying to work with the Roxio program I have now decided to abandon it. It is now to late to return.

I have spent most of this week trying to do a simple slideshow from Jpeg files and it simply cannot handle them, the program is just so slow, it crashes, I have repaired, reinstalled on both laptop and desktop the constant many many problems continue.

I did however have some success with the audio sound but cannot explain how, doing the same as previously the sound was transferred ?? I have not had the time to progress because of the instability.

Even trying to reply to your response is not easy because we have to go to the main web site to do that, it will not let you log on from the Email !

Before I get a guru reply my desktop is high spec and my laptop was purchased in September last year also high spec.

Best wishes
