Easy CD and DVD Burning Install Problem

TJ Cope

Question

I'm trying to install this program. I get the error message "You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content." in a popup box labeled "EMC 10 Content - InstallShield Wizard". I tried the Clean Install Intsructions for Easy DC and DVD Creator 6 (Knowledgebase Article 000056CR) to no avail -- at least 4 times :-( -- even though my product is called Easy CD and DVD Burning. I'm guessing these aren't the same products but I couldn't find any thing closer in name in these forums or via google searches.

Daithi -- Thanks for the suggestion. Bottom line: it didn't help. But I’ve tried more “things”.

First let me apologize for not finding this subforum before I posted. I had done a number of searches in the overall forum but never saw this subset – guess I didn’t scroll dowm far enough.

Since you led me to this subforum I've been browsing through and reading posts for install problems. And those about what version my Red Box Burning might be. I’m still a bit confused about the version so I've tried the following install “remedies” (multiple times) to no avail. I know the importance of following procedures to the letter so I was very careful but this is not to say I’m absolutely sure I did so (thus the reason I’ve tried multiple times).

KB 000086CR -- Clean Install of Creator 9 & 10 on Windows XP

KB 000206CR -- Complete Uninstall of Creator 2009 and 2010 (Windows XP)

KB 000217CR -- "You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content" while installing Roxio Creator 2009

I’ve spent waaaaaay too much time on this when all I’m looking for is a means to copy data files to a DVD. Maybe someone has a good alternative to this app???

Just to be clear how far along I got in the install process:

The Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning Setup dialog box shows

“Status: Installing EMC 10 Content"

and the progress meter was nearly filled with green boxes -- two or three boxes from being complete -- when the message

“You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the Content.”

is displayed in pop-up box labeled “EMC 10 Content – InstallShield Wizard”.

I let the process continue to back out everything.

One more thing: I found the “EMC_CONTENT10_Install.log”. Here are the last entries in that file:

Property(S): TRANSFORMS = D:\EMC_CONTENT10\1033.mst

Sorry for the long post. I’ve seldom been accussed of being too brief.

Are there any more suggestions on things I could try? – TJ

The Setup Wizard has completed successfully. !!!!!! (exclamation points mine :-)

What a beautiful message! firenhancer’s post apparently was the incantation I needed. I used no other remedies since my last attempt to install except the deleting the registry key as described in the post.

I’ve even burned my first data DVD!
