Why does it take so long?

dmd_uk

Question

I purchased, downloaded and intsalled Creator 2010 last night.

Having had problems in the past with upgrading Roxio pruducts, I did a full removal of V10. Well I beat my own record for length of time to install a program.

Best part of an hour to remove V10, an hour to download the new version and, wait for it, 1 hour 30 mins to install.

Why does it take so long? I can build a new PC quicker than that!

Included in the down load was a program 'RoxioCreator2010Content_HV13AXD0SQA.exe' which, because of the lateness of the hour I didn't install. The new version seems to be happily running, so what exactly does this program contain? and is it worth/neccessary installing

That doesn't bode well at all. That is about 1 hour and 10 minutes too long to install, and you are really lucky if all portions of the software work. My guess is you will be doing a clean install in the near future.

Errrrr, that WAS a clean install!

Perhaps it was the time it took to download .net and other programs from MS

You followed the instructions in one of OS links, in the following link?

If so, you did a clean install. If not, you didn't do the clean install that I was talking about.

Please post your computer specs. It is best if you put them in your signature. Go to the top of this page, click on MyControls and then look to the left for edit signature. Put in the type of information you see in other's signatures.

Did you have your anti-virus running during the install -- not just paused? Was your hard drive defragmented? Did you prepare your computer like this?

I'm sorry but I don't see the need to give chapter and verse about the spec of my computer. I checked that it meets the minimum specification, which it exceeds comfortably.

Are you saying we are going back to the bad old days when some software wouldn't work with certain hardware? Also I am one of a large number of people who do not update their pc's via Microsoft update. I do not want my machine hijacked as a lot of my colleagues have done or completely trashed by a rouge Microsoft update.

It should not be neccessary to jump through all these hoops just to load a program.

It still doesn't explain why it took over an hour to download and why there was no warninng that it would load further programs from Microsoft?

I have been using the Creator family of programs since V4 and each upgrade has become more and more bloated and less and less friendly. I have questions concerning the program itself and will post these to the approprate thread

If your operating system isn't updated to certain service packs the C2010 product won't install or work correctly..

Since you refuse to give that information, how could anyone try to help you!

I don't understand your reluctance to post your computer specs. It takes practically no time to do so. We ask because there may be one part of your computer that is causing the hang. Usually it is the video card/chip, not enough free space on your hard drive, anti-virus paused and not off, fragmented hard drive, and other issues.

Remember that we are not Roxio employees and are here to help. If you want to stonewall or just rant, call Roxio support and pay them to answer your questions. I'll bet that they will ask about your computer and will not take "meets requirements" as an answer.

You are saying that your furnace does not heat in cold weather but when the repairman says what furnace do you have, you say it meets the housing code ! Honest bit not very helpful to anyone who wants to help.

About now, you will reply with more of a rant and probably attack someone who wants to help. In that case, this thread will be closed or deleted. Be nice. Has it been a long, cold, sunless winter in the UK?
