Lightscribe drive busy

The Other Dave

Question

I just installed a new lightscribe capable drive on my dell 5150 computer. I have downloaded the newest lightscribe drivers. However, when I use Label Creater to try to print, I get the words "Lightscribe Error" in the preview box and an error box telling me that the requested drive is already in use. I am able to use the same drive to burn a label using the lightscribe software, as well as with the Nero software that came with the lightscribe drive. I prefer the Roxio Label Creator though and would like to get it working. The lightscribe diagnostics show the drive to be working properly and I am unaware of any configuration settings that could be set to the wrong values. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you replace a drive or add a drive, was it SATA or IDE?

Sorry about the delay. I replaced the drives that were in the computer. They are IDE drives. I have since installed them in another computer and they work fine burning labels with Roxio's Label Creator. I have also tried installing other drives that I know worked with Roxio's Label Creator into the Dell and no matter what configuration I use, I continue to get the "lightscribe error" message in the preview box when I try to print, as well as the message that the drives are already in use. I have tried a clean install of Media Creator 10 and still have the same problem.

If tbrewst suggestion doesn't work, I would recheck your drive and cable settings....

Dell uses IDE cable select jumper settings on there disc drives. IDE optical drives come with three settings, Master, Slave, and Cable Select, did you check, reset (move jumper pin on back of drive), any of these settings on the replaced drives? Using Cable Select requires a Cable Select IDE cable too, the one that came with the Dell...

The jumper settings are on cable select, I have deleted the drives from the hardware device manager and have even downloaded the latest lightscribe software and installed it, hoping that would fix the problem. But I still get the same error. Sorry about the delay in responding, but this computer is at church and I can only get to it once or twice a week. Any other suggestions besides throwing it off the balcony and buying another one? I can use the lightscribe simple labeler to burn labels as well as the Nero software that came with the drives, just not the Roxio.
