No sound from turntable

mark51

Question

Have connected my turntable to my computer via RCA cables into a RCA to 3.5MM Stereo Mini (Y cable) plugged into my soundcard but software doesn't recognize the turntable (no sound). Capture from shows 'USB2861 device' and input shows 'line'. I also tried the roxio adapter with no results. My turntable is an older model Technics SL-5310 and doesn't have a USB connection-is this required in order to use this?

Your number one problem is the Capture from shouldn't show the USB device.

This is how you said it's connected.."Have connected my turntable to my computer via RCA cables into a RCA to 3.5MM Stereo Mini (Y cable) plugged into my soundcard".This doesn't bring the USB device into play, therefore the Capture from should show as your Sound card. Then the Input should show as Line In.

To do this you need some kind of pre-amp in between the turntable and computer like Jim said.

For the USB device to work you'd still need the pre-amp but it would be between the turntable and USB device. Then the device would go to a USB port.If you did this then the Capture should show USB 2861 device.

The problem is in your connection and settings. They don't match.Plus you're missing the pre-amp.

Thanks for your information; can you suggest a pre-amp that would work in this setup? Thank you.
