Creating a instructional/demonstration video

smr2107

Question

Hi everyone,

I'm (finally) using roxio 2010 (long story) and I have a new project "make an instructional video." I see that there's a way to capture video using a web cam...that's great, but not exactly what I need. What I need to do is to create an instructional/demonstration video for navigating software, intranet site, etc. I don't need video capture of me and my face, I need video capture of my computer screen. Is there something in Roxio 2010 that allows for this?

I made a quick search but I didn't find the topic so I thought I'd ask. Any suggestions?

Sorry Sarah there is nothing like that in the Roxio software.

See if you can get an old version of TechSmith's Camtasia Studio from e-bay. If this is a one time thing, I think that the trial is a full version. If you can be considered educational, there is a discount.

If the video is short, you might try TechSmith's Jing.

If you have a MAC sitting around, Camtasia Studio for MAC is less expensive.

Here is the type of thig you can do with Camtasia (kerri's videos)

Would a slide show be of any use?

Thanks for the quick reply, that's all I wanted to know! It didn't seem like the function was available on Roxio, but I thought I'd check nevertheless.

I changed my key words in the search and came up with another Roxio forum poster on "general chat section" which included free apps for screen recording. I'll start with the firefox add-in to get something quick until I do more reading on CamStudio.

thanks!

Curious if anyone has ever been able to capture from the Video Card outputs???

I did a quick tinker with the adapter that came with one of my laptops and the Roxio Video Capture USB, but got nowhere…

Notice that adapter and its' connector on the Lap or Video Cards is not an S-Video...

Played a little more and was able to capture with this rig… :D

I used the Laptop and captured through the Roxio Video Capture USB device to my Desktop. (requires something to do Analog/Digital conversion - consider recording to DVD or camcorder?)

You have to Extend or Duplicate your desktop on 'both' displays. But my old laptop would only allow Extend and had to drop to 800 X 600 for it to work…

Kind of takes the bang out of it… :(

That adapter was really made for using a TV in conjunction with the Laptop.

My newer Mini 10 has HDMI output. I have a HDMI to VGA cable but haven't had any luck getting it to work… I may have to revisit that one??? ;)
