machine freezes

sonarman

Question

When trying to use Video Capture (VHS to DVD), the sub program starts, thinks for about 45 seconds then the machine freezes. No key combination will bring it back. I have to power off to get it back.

Dell Inspiron 1720

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit - fully up to date.

Video is Intel 965

All drivers are fuly up to date.

This is my best machine but can move it to an XP desktop if necessary. Any ideas??? :angry2:

More on maching freezing when trying to capture video...

I have determined (without help from Roxio tech support - they seemed to write me off) that easy VHS to DVD is not compatable with the Mobile Intel 935 chip set. My drivers are up to date using the Windows 7 approved version 8.15.10.1912. I have uninstalled it several times using the Roxio clean install method to no avail.

I Installed it on an older Acer Aspire 5600 with Windows XP/SP3 with an Intel 945M chip set and it works perfectly (so far).

I see why so many complain about Roxio. They do not seem to care. I will look for other manufacturers solutions. I have several friends looking for the features VHS to DVD provides, but cannot reccomend it to them. One has the same Dell 1720 but has a different video - Nvidia. I will try it on his.

Why do you blame Roxio if your video card is not capable of handling video? Do you expect them to buy you a new card?

First - I do not blame Roxio for a video system that does not work, but do for a high lack of support. This is reflected in the many "frustrated" customers on this board and a number of other tech boards and reviews covering many of their products. One poses a question about a specific product and the answer comes back about something else, or a repeat of a previous answer.

I have now tried this thing on 7 different machines, and it workes on only one - a 6 year old Acer Aspire 5600. I had one machine look like it was going to work, but the video coming from the source was not recorded, but the web cam came on and that was recorded, along with the audio from the tape. So, I give up and will look elseware for my (and others) needs.

Newbie, I am having trouble with freezing while trimming my audio and I don't know how to do all of the things that you described in your earlier post. Have you found another software program that is easier to use? If so, I would be interested in trying it.

Why don't you start your own thread, and list what problems you are having, and what you have tried.

Someone will offer you help.

Once I got the EasyVHS to DVD working (on one pc out of 7), I found that the editing parts were not that good, often stopping work in the middle of a project. I moved on to Adobe Premier Elements 8 and so far it seems to work just fine. Another choice is Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Both also have the ability to capture video from various sources, DV, HDV etc. Both work fine with my Canon DV Camcorder.

So far though I have not been able to get them to capture through the Roxio USB Capture device. I am told that they work with Dazzle (usb version not the card). I don't have one so... Both programs see the Roxio USB but nothing happens. I have a new machine on the way and will see what happens with that one. Both of these programs are available for a 30 day evaluation period.
