Erroneous Windows Messages

Question

This is driving me nuts. When I open videowave if I don't click any buttons immediately, within ten seconds or so two windows will open up. One of them says "Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition" in the title and tells me "You must restart your system for the configuration changes made ....etc.. Yes or no if you want to restart later. The second window has the same title bar and says "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition". I am running Roxio 2010. If I click on the cancel button it comes right back, often five or six times before it gives up. Clicking NO on the restart button usually closes that one. However, if I change the part of Roxio I am working in, for example go from Videowave to MyDVD, it comes up again and takes several no clicks to have it stop reappearing. When I go to burn a dvd in MyDVD, it shows up again, several times. You have no idea how aggrivating this is. Roxio responded to my first email about the problem telling me to delete Roxio and then reinstall it. I won't bother you with the trouble that gave me before I could finally get it to install. In any case I have another update to Roxio and am waiting for a response but wonder if anyone may have seen this problem and has a solution.

Do/did you have Creator 2009 on your computer?

Do/did you have VHS to DVD on yur computer?

Do you have any other Roxio program on your computer such as an OEM like Roxio DE. These OEMs are programs that come with a computer or a piece of computer hardware.

I did have Roxio 2009 installed on my computer before installing 2010. The email I got from Roxio last week in response to my input regarding this problem told me to remove 2010 and any and all references to Sonic or Roxio on my system. I did this then had a real problem doing a "clean install" of 2010. It would only let me repair or remove but of course did neither. After perusing this forum I found a way to get the system clear enough to allow a new install of 2010. Of course then the original problem was back in spades. I do/did not have VHS to DVD on my system or any other Roxio programs.

Is this what you used for a clean install

Please answer my question about Microsoft Installer Clean up. If it didn't work, why do you expect the rest of it to do what it is supposed to.

Don't repeat what we already know, answer the question or don't but it will be difficult to help if you don't read and follow instructions.

I don't know what you want me to say. It obviously did work because I was allowed to do a new install (three times) after painstakingly following Roxio's instructions.

No. I did not use this link.

I received an email from Roxio that told me to do the following:

1. Disable all in the startup tab using msconfig.

2. Use control panel to remove the roxio program.

3. download windows installer clean up utility. (it didn't work)

4. remove any folders with the name Sonic or Roxio in them.

5. remove certain keys in the registry.

I did all this but was not able to reinstall Roxio. the program would only let me either repair or remove. Neither worked. Finally I went to this support group and saw a "clean special edition link". I downloaded it and ran it. Apparently it did something because I was then able to go through a complete reinstall of Roxio 2010. Unfortunately, the problem of the windows referenced in my initial email was still there. The program functions, just a pain dealing with these constant suprufluous windows. I am running Vista Ultimate, two 1.5tb hard drives, 8gig memory.

But it is still not working to your satisfaction. :(

My last suggestion: Download and run Revo Uninstaller to remove any Roxio programs you see listed. Clean up your computer using CCleaner and then defrag using one of the defraggers here. Reboot. Do this and then reinstall Creator 2010.

This has worked for others but no guarantee. What have you got to lose?

Please explain the bolded text. If this didn't work, then you will continue to have the issue. The info you got from Roxio is the same as the procedures that ogdens linked to.

You found out that if you don't get rid of all the Roxio entries, then you cannot re-install. Suggestion, print off the instructions and follow them item by item. Do not add or skip any steps; including the Installer Clean Up.

I have re-installed this program now three times. I followed the instructions explicitly, everything worked or appeared to. Even the Roxio software reported that the installation was successful. the only problem is that I still have the same problem with these windows that open up telling me to "please wait while windows configures Roxio 2009 Special Edition. I have to hit cancel a couple of times for it to go away but it always comes back later. I noticed while watching the installation where it tells you what modules it is installing, it mentioned that it was installing Roxio 2009 at one point. This install is being done of course with a Roxio 2010 Special Edition disk.
