Poor Capture quality...

JoshEarnest

Question

Hey guys. I've been trying to get some home movies from Mini-DV format onto dvd. The problem I'm running into is that all the videos once the are captured from my camorder to my pc, I'm noticing a lot of quality loss. I thought it was in the burning process so burn them in the HQ format as opposed to the fit to disk but no change.

I tried to find out why it might be doing this, but there seems to be no setting for quality during the cpature process. I've got it set to DVD HQ mpeg-2 format but the quality is most definately not DVD quality. Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a hardware issue? Am I missing some key step? Please help.

Just copy the video from the DVDs to your hard drive using Windows Explorer. There is no need to use any capture program.

HOw is you DVD camcorder connected to you PC?

it's not a dvd camorder it's a mini-dv tape sony handycam connected via usb. I'm using the video capture program in roxio 2009

Sorry about that misread on the miniDV  USB connection will not work properly with the DV camcorder, the program thhinks you are using a WebCam when connected with USB and captures to poor quality. You should be using a Firewire connection.

My PC does not have a firewire port. How can i get the program to not recognize the camcorder as a webcam? Can i get a firewire to usb cord or adapter will that solve the issue???

Not doubting you but how old is your computer? FireWire aka IEEE 1394/ I-link has been around for many years as a standard.
