Freezing while copying audio cd

thomas_boling

Question

I have recently started backing up all of my audio cd's to carry in my car. I have been using Roxio 8 since it came out. I have never came into a single problem with it. I love this software, however, I need help with a problem. Yesterday I was burning from an audio cd, the original, to a CD-R. I am burning directly from one cd to the other. It takes alot longer than usual to burn. Apon closing, it freezes. I let it sit for 2 hours while it was finalizing. It never finished. I had to end the program through task manager. After which, my drives became unusable. I couldn't even shut down Window. I had to do a hard shut down. When I brought it back up, the drives would open again. I tried a different cd and got the same thing. It was working fine the day before performing the same action. I am thinking that I will need to uninstall and reinstall to fix this. If anybody has any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

First, it could be the cd you're trying to copy has some type of copy protection on it (possibly). Secondly, instead of copying from disc to disc, have you tried copying to an ISO to your hard drive then using that to burn? An extra step but if it works.... Thirdly, are you using Disc Copier or the Copy program from the Home menu? Whichever one you're using, switch to the other and see if that works.

In addition to what Paul said, get rid of any spyware/malware you have on your hard drive, and make sure you aren't running your antivirus software when burning Cd's or DVD's.

Ok, I made an ISO image ot a cd. It did that fine. It is when I got to burn that it freezes. I did a reinstall and that didn't fix it. I believe my burner has gone bad, which really sucks. I have only had it since December. I miss my old Sony. lol It is an AOpen DL burner. I will have to exchange it with the warranty. Hopefully, they will let me pay the difference to get a better brand. Any ideas as to which DL burner works best with Roxio 8? I am leaning towards one with Lightscibe.
