dvdr+DL skips after burning

Question

im sure my question has been asked at some point, but i couldnt find a thread that had an answer that was relevant to my problem, so i apologize if it is repetitive...

i have been trying to burn dvdr DL's for a while now. i am relatively new to dvd burning, i will admit, but i have successfully burned all different types of SL discs (.img files, video_ts folders, .avis, etc). i have a brand new macbook running snow leopard and is supposed to be able to burn double layer dvd's. i have tried burning every way that i can (from video_ts folder, .img files, converting the files, etc) and every time the dvd burns & completes successfully, however, i experience a pause in the frame every few seconds. it is extremely frustrating. what i need burned would not compress to a SL dvd very nicely, so that is not really an option. the files i have been burning are made to be burned on a DL dvd and are contained in an .img file, which i have also opened and tried burning directly from the video folder. it has its own menus and chaptering already. the only information i have been able to find online is that it maybe ha to do with the break where it changes layers, and then that burning dvdr dl discs is difficult. so, i thought i would come here, where maybe someone had experienced the same problem as me with this program and can tell me what i am doing wrong, or what i can do to fix the problem? any help is much appreciated...

Skipping issues are generally related to poor discs. Are you experiencing the problem on computer or standalone player or both?

What brand of discs are using? If not already using, use Verbatim discs. You could try slowing down the burn speed based on what is available at the time of burn.

You also want to ensure mounting the image file and playing it to ensur that the issue is not in source.

i have been using memorex, so i will try to find verbatim ones (the store i got mine at had a very limited selection of dvdr+DLs). how do i mount the image file? i have heard this as an option as well but i am unsure of how to do it exactly.

i have checked the video in the preview in toast and through my computer dvd player and there is no skipping in the source file, so it must just be a burning issue. i will see if i can slow down the burn speed, is there a way to manually change it? right now it just does it automatically, usually around 5x. i have the quality on "best" which i thought slowed the burn down a little bit. also, is there a difference or is it better to burn as an .img file vs the video_ts folder? i just didnt know if one was better than the other. thank you very much for your help!!

**EDIT: ok so i feel stupid. i just checked the dvds on my computer and they play fine. so i guess my dvd player is just too old?

It is most likely MEMOREX!!! THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING GARBAGE!!! A couple of months ago, I wrote to them and said out of 100 DVD-R DL discs 49 would either NOT BURN or would not mount.

They wrote back "We don't sell 100 packs" I wrote back " well let's see ... I purchased 2 50 packs and the last time I looked 50 + 50 = 100.

Imation wrote their version of an apology and said I could send the Bad discs back with the original receipt and they would replace them.

I for one will NEVER buy any Memorex product again.

I have had good burns with Fuji, Sony, Phillips, and Panasonic. CD's, DVD's, DVD-R's, DVD-R DL's, BD-R's, and BD-R DL's. I have never cared for RW discs because I am archiving videos and photos in the highest resolution possible. I have heard that Verbatim is the most reliable, but they cost more.
