Creator 2010 Best Buy $60

Willard M

Question

Best Buy has Creator 2010 on sale now for $60. I am thinking about upgrading but need some advice first. My new computer came from Dell with Roxio Creator 10.2 (junk). I am now using EMC 9. Unfortunately, I think I may have made a serious mistake in not upgrading the sound and graphics cards thinking that they would be adequate. I am having to run EMC 9 in Software mode. If I try to run in Hardware mode I get the BSOD. I don't really know why as when I run the graphics test the program defaults to Hardware mode. I am also having a problem with my audio. At times I will lose both the native audio and music tracks. When I go to Timeline and cycle the off/on buttons the audio usually will play OK. Even this may require several tries.

In Easy Audio Capture I have lost some of the selections. The Auto feature for Audio Volume is greyed out. I am able to adjust the volume manually but this usually takes several tries.

Perhaps some of you can look at my specs and give some advice on whether my integrated cards will do the job. Also, if you think they will should I uninstall the other 2 Roxio programs? I think I remember seeing where some of you are running several of the programs with no conflict. Advice is welcome.

Thanks

Hey, where have you been? I don't think your problems are either EMC 9 or your computer; something else is going on.

Have you updated the drivers for your computer? Did you remove 10.2 before you installed EMC 9?

Throwing $$ at a problem usually doesn't fix them. Do you see anything in Creator 2010 that you would need? Are you planning for any HD video work? You may want to buy it and put it on a shelf until you get your other problems figured out.

Bottom line, your computer specs look fine; it won't give you the very fast rendering that you could get with CUDA or Stream but it should work well. I prefer a audio card rather than chip but again that is a personal preference.

sknis,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have checked all of the drivers for the sound and graphics card and they seem to be correct. I did not uninstall Roxio 10.2 prior to installing EMC 9. As I said earlier the graphics test defaults to Hardware mode. When I try to preview the movie it will show about 3 or 4 slides and then I get the blue screen.

I am not planning on any HD Video work. My movies usually consist of about 75 pics with a few video clips, music and native audio. Usually they will run for 15 or 20 minutes.

There were some features on Creator 2010 that looked pretty good. For example, to be able to download direct from Youtube and to get rid of that mpeg codec 2 thing. I know that for my movies that EMC 9 will do all these things if it were working as it should and do them well but I was willing to spend the $60 if it will solve my problems with the BSOD and the disappearance of my audio.

Stick with EMC 9 until you get the problem fixed. If you want to spend some $$ get a better graphics card.

Trt this; download and run Revo Uninstaller in the MODERATE mode to get rid of anyhting Roxio that shows up. Reboot and prepare youer computer like this. Reinstall EMC 9. If it works OK, then you can make a decision on graphics card and Creator 2010.
