Invalid Field in CDB?

Question

Hi Guys.

I'm trying to burn an .img file for a iDVD project I created which is just over 7gb. However using the "fit to dvd compression" option within Toast 10 Titanium isn't working. Before it even spins the drive to attempt to burn the disc the following error appears :

The Drive reported an error: Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST Sense Code = 0x24 INVALID FIELD IN CDB

I have tried different branded DVD's, I have also tried using another drive and the same error appears each time. I have also trashed the toast preferences. Any advice on how to get this working correctly?

Many thanks for your help. I'm using a PowerPc Powermac G5 10.5.8 with the latest 10.0.6 toast software.

This probably is because the video cannot be compressed as much as needed to fit the single-layer DVD. iDVD uses uncompressed PCM audio which takes up a lot of space. Toast's fit-to-dvd requantizes (compresses) only the video. If the audio fills up too much of the disc there isn't enough room to fit the video.

I don't have a workaround for this in which you can keep the iDVD menu. If you are willing to give up the iDVD menu then you can add the video to Toast from the iDVD disc image by mounting the disc image, selecting DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser and dragging the contents from the browser to the DVD video setting in the Video window. Choose Always re-encode in the custom encoder settings window. Choose Save as Disc Image. If the resulting disc image is still too big you can use fit-to-DVD when burning your disc because the audio is now Dolby Digital AC-3.
