What I need is to show live video from my Easy VHS to DVD hardware in full screen

Nikol

Question

Hello, noob here. Are there any other threads that I may have missed? What I need is to show live video from my Easy VHS to DVD hardware in full screen, or at least larger than the small preview screen. It occurs to me that I may need different software. Anyone know of cheap or free software that does this. I don't really need to capture, just display live video.

Thanks

That is the problem, no video monitor to connect to. The only video input I have is on my Easy VHS to DVD. I carry that around with my laptop and have occasion to need to display video without running around to gather other hardware. My laptop is always with me.

Ah... you're original question said, "live video", which implies camera is that what you have? Or what video are you playing? Something from a VHS? Is it something you have to do on the spur of the moment, "live"? Or is it something you can have pre-captured on your laptop. Once you have it captured, then you can play it back full-screen using Windows Media Player or the free VLC player.

Hope that helps!

If you don't need to record, and if whatever monitor/TV you're using to display it on has the inputs, just connect the output from your camera to your monitor. No computer needed at all.

Yup, live video as in CCTV. I use it to monitor what is going on with some electronics you do not want to be close to when running. I set the camera up on a tripod and can focus in on a DVM or oscilloscope. Right now I need to watch for some HV arcing. I just need to see what is going on while it happens.

Well, unfortunately, I don't have any good suggestions for any software that'll do what you want. Every capture application I've used only presents a smaller capture window, with no option for a full screen presentation, which you don't normally want during capture.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with other ideas.

The only hardware that I can think of that might work for you is something like the Hauppauge USB devices (see links below). The included software (WinTV) allows it to be run in full screen and the device has inputs for A/V cables so yo should be able to connect up your camera to it and feed a live shot thru the composite channel.
