How Did I receive an E-mail Question?

I was quite surprised to receive a personal message from Roxio Community from an apparent support forum user. The question didn't contain enough information to make an intelligent response..."I burned some music videos and they will not play back." Consequently, I didn't respond. Moreover, I was somewhat concerned that the message was sent to my e-mail address, which I didn't realize could be done on this forum. Does this sometimes occur? Is it legit? Why didn't this person just post his question on the support forum? Would responding to this message have compromised my e-mail address in any fashion?

Do you mean that you received the message in you e-mail input box or in the PM box in this forum?

Outerbank,

There is a setting you can make in your personal settings which will cause the Forum Board software to send you an email notifying you when you have a personal message [PM] waiting for you on the forum board. You can also ask for email notification from the board software when someone posts a reply on a topic you're following.

Some of the notifications you get from the board software will carry a summary or copy of the message concerned.

If you got an email message from the Roxio Community and then found the corresponding PM waiting for you when you logged on here, that is what will have happened.

If you responded to the notification email nothing would happen, since that is an OUTWARD address only, from the board software.

If you responded to the PM then the person would get your reply, but no more info about you than he already knew from seeing your posts in the forum.

If the email you got was actually directly from a real person, then I'm totally perplexed. Only the Roxio employee administrators have access to your email address - even the Gurus with their 'Godly Powers' can't access it.

Regards,

Brendon

Thanks for the replies. The personal e-mail message did come through from the Roxio community. It's good to know that my e-mail address was not compromised and that I can safely respond to this personal message.

Its still not clear what type of message you are talking about. Did you open it by clicking on "New Messages" in the menu bar at the top of this forum? If yes, then that is called a Personal Message (PM) and and the sender has not used your e-mail address.

If a standard e-mail:

Did the e-mail come from : "support_noreply@roxio.com"?

Does it include the following towards the end:

"If you have configured in your control panel to receive immediate topic reply notifications, you may receive an

email for each reply made to this topic. Otherwise, only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic.

This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox."

If your your answre is "yes" to both questions then you can ignore the e-amil since it is just a notification as Brendon has indicated. If the answer is "no" then there is a problem.
