Truth in Advertising?

Popeye USN

Question

:angry2: I recently purchased the Easy VHS to DVD program and, in my opinion, it is NOT worth the money. I cannot use the 2-hour recording time. It has never worked. I've spent many hours on the phone and online with the Roxio company trying to figure out how to make it work, but they have no answers for me. I've talked to several people, who all want to send me to their "help" section of the website, but I've researched that section and there are NO answers to my problem.

Obviously they don't keep notes about what has been done to help resolve an issue, because I had to go through the same steps with each new person I talked with. It really felt like I was getting the "run-around" from them.

The most time I can record is 1-1/2 hours. It is UNACCEPTABLE to me to have to put a 2-hour movie on 2 DVD's!

I would NOT recommend this program as it doesn't work like it says it will, and the customer support is lousy! :angry2:

I totally agree! I should have done some research on this product. It is evident from the forum that this program is flawed. Truth in advertising...."Easy VHS to DVD?" Just hope I can return it!

Hi Popeye -

Sorry to hear you're having problems with Easy VHS to DVD. I believe we escalated the poster you quoted and resolved his issue back in February.

Is there anything I can help you with?

I see you haven't submitted a support ticket, so if you could fill me in, I'd be happy to help you out.

Thanks,

Jon

I am able to sucessfully copy movies to disc. However, I can only copy about one hour at a time. Which means if I have a 2 hour and 15 minute movie I have to save to 3 seperate discs.

A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at best (HQ) quality. To get more on the DVD you have to change to lower quality settings. This is common to all video software and has nothing to do with Roxio.

Your 'disappointment' really stems from your lack of understanding…

You have found(?) that Plug & Burn will do 2+ hours but all experienced users recommend against that…

The 2 Hour Capture setting has never worked in any version of V2D, end of story!

But that is only for a Timed Capture and in no way does it mean you cannot capture for 2 hours or more!!! – my personal best was in excess of 8 hours when I left the house and it was running :lol:

But as Walt pointed out, 4.7 GB DVDs only hold around of 1 hour at High Quality… I have put up to 8 hours on one but it was horrible to look at!

Of course a VHS tape is not much to look at to begin with, and when you reduce the Quality, it goes down fast!!!

DVD Capacity run about:

4.7Gb:

HQ = 1:06

SP = 1:37

LP = 2:22

ELP = 3:04

8.5 Gb:

HQ = 2:00

SP = 2:57

LP = 4:19

ELP = 5:35

You need to get yourself a disc or 2 of DVD RW media, sit back and start experimenting and learning.

There are a lot of fellow users here with a great amount of experience and knowledge that are willing to share it, if asked. It is up to you…

Can you not choose the Best Quality setting (60 minutes)?

I don't recommend using Plug&Burn to transfer VHS from the analog camcorder to a DVD. I prefer to use "Capture Video" to capture the video to a file on the hard drive. Then use Create DVDs to burn the captured video to the DVD from the file.

Okay, let's see if we can make this easy? Step by step, how do you copy VHS movies onto one disc?
