Filename too long

cbahr

Question

I am burning data files to DVD with Roxio Creator 2010. My filenames are intentionally very long as my filepath is quite complicated. Does anyone know of a work-around to the filename limit? I believe it is 160. I do NOT want to rename my files! Thanks for any help!

You'll find the settings I referred to under "File -> Project settings" under the "General" tab.

Thank you! Both options work very well. I had to work through the option tree to get to the exact spot I needed (new project/data-copy/burn data disk-advanced/ etc. but your information was correct. MANY thanks!

You're right, I should've specified that I went directly to Creator Classic (Start -> Creator 2010 -> Applications -> Creator Classic).

Woo hoo! Thanks for letting us know it worked for you!

Sorry, I'm not at home, but in the disc properties, you can set the file system to UDF No Bridge, which may give you more than 160 characters. If that doesn't do it, then you're up against the file system limits, and there's really no getting around it, directly.

One option that's been given before is that you could zip your files into a single file, telling it to maintain the path structure, and write the .ZIP file to your disc. When you un-zip the file(s) it should recreate the original file path and name.

Hope that helps!

I'll check for the disk properties...did not see that option anywhere. The .ZIP idea is superb. Ashamed I didn't think of that myself. These disks sometimes contain immense amounts of data. I will definitely give it a try. Many thanks!
