Disc Spanning Problem

fpet

Question

When trying to burn a number of spanned DVDs with Toast Titanium 10.x the Dialog "Vorbereitung des (Preparing of) Disc-Spanning Disc 0 of 6" does not complete. The application does not react to pressing the Cancel button and does not finish the operation. Waiting for more than one hour now :-(

(OSX Server 10.6.2 on Mac Mini Intel, external Plextor Blue-Ray drive via Firewire, Data-Size = appr.21GByte to 6 DVD 4.7 GByte Single layer). Older 10.x and newest 10.0.6 show the same problem.

It needs force quit to get rid of Toast 10.x

It seems to work with 3 DVDs.

Same operation works without problems under OSX 10.4.1 and Toast 9.x on a Quad G5, but Toast 9.x shows the same problem on the Mac Mini / OSX Server

Any idea ?

I know that 'me too' posts are of little use except to prove to the software vendor that they have indeed got a buggy program, but... me too.

OS X 10.6.3

Toast 10.0.1

4 x DVD set. My MacbookPro 3GHz went to sleep in between disc 3 and 4 (of 4)

and when awoke it was hung.

Force quit Toast.

After relaunching, Toast can't find the burner anymore unless I restart.

A couple suggestions. Update to Toast 10.0.6, especially since you are using Snow Leopard. Also, if the MBP went to sleep then changing the sleep settings in the Energy Saver control panel should keep that from happening. It's strange but some computer operations don't keep the Mac awake when they should.

Reading fpet's post makes me wonder if the Energy Saver settings may have an affect on your situation, too. Maybe the Mac is shutting off communication with the external drive (the drive goes to sleep) after a certain amount of time.
