program doesn't work

Question

I bought Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning (compatible with Vista, XP, & 2K) (red box) just 4 days ago. After installation, I am unable to open the program. The clerk at Office Depot guaranteed me that I could return it to Roxio if I wasn't happy. I am not happy in the least. Not only will this program not open from the shortcut, let alone anywhere else, your site has a very well hidden support section. Read "nearly nonexistant. Must dig deeply to find!!!" Also there is no place to update this program from. It is copywrited 2007. It must have been updated since then. I am running XP SP3. I have 3 Seagate 750 gig hd, 2 TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182m burners, which your program only recognozies one or the other, but not both, Athlon 64x2 Dual core 5600+ and 4 gig of ram. I don't believe I have a hardware issue. I just have, in my opinion, a poorly written program, and would like to return it like I was promised I could. Please explain to me what it is I need to do to initiate the process.

other than undeleting and reinstalling, if there are no legitimate updates, what magic do you have that may work?

I have no magic, but your program did run at one point and now clicking on the icon brings no response according to what you say.

This behavior has been seen when a user cleans his registry while he has Easy Media Creator 9 or 10 installed. The registry cleaner breaks a Roxio entry and the suite stops responding. Usually version 9 will show a "trial version expired" notice, but not always. Some times it will just stop, like yours has.

The 2007 version of Easy CD and DVD Burning is version 9.0.554, and it's a cut-down sub-set of EMC 9. Your installation may respond to the fixes contained in the pinned post about this in this forum here. I'm sorry I can't guarantee a result because without the error message we can't be sure of the cause, but it's worth trying.

If that doesn't work you may still need to go back to Office Depot.

Regards,

Brendon

I am thoroughly, thoroughly amazed. The program will now open up from the shortcut icon on the desktop. Now I need to see over the next few days how well it is going to allow me to rip vinyl. Do you have any special advise, Brendon, for this operation?

We cannot help you since this is not Roxio Customer Service nor Roxio Support. This is a forum for users trying to help each other.

The version you have is a limited version of a full retail version that is no longer supported nor will it ever really be updated. There seems to be a newer version out which is compatible with Windows 7.

Roxio did not promise you that you could return the program to them. Your complaint should be with the Office Depot clerk for giving you false information.

Perhaps if you were to explain with a bit more detail exactly what happens when you try to start the program, some user who has the program may be able to help.

Gee. That Dude Brendon sure seems to have his stuff together for "just a user". So what happens? Absolutely nothing at all. I click on the shortcut icon, and literally nothing happens.

Hello Cornorstone,

I have a couple of ideas as to what might be wrong with your installation, but I'll restrict myself to answering your request unless you want me to try and help you get the program going properly.

I think the program will be version 9.0.554, but if you can't run it, you can't easily verify that. It has not been sold by Roxio since 2007, and is out of support time, and there are no free updates for it. Since you bought this old software from Office Depot, I'm afraid you will need to return it to Office Depot.

I don't work for Roxio so I can't speak for them, but commercial Law says your contract is with the shop you bought the software from, and not with the manufacturer. If the sales clerk guaranteed you that you could return it if not satisfied, then he has bound Office Depot by that promise. He can't make Roxio refund your purchase since they didn't sell it to you. I haven't dealt with Office Depot, but I hope they stand by the guarantees their employees give and I wish you total success in getting a speedy and complete refund.

If Office Depot won't honor their employee's guarantee or can't be forced to honor it, and you'd like some tech help to get the software going, please come back here. I'll be more than happy to do my best to help you.

Regards,

Brendon
