how to create a disc image file?

JAP33107

Question

Can someone tell me how to create a disc image rather than burn to disc? I am having the same problem as this person in a previous post...

"Hey guys. Well here is the issue. I have a file captured onto my computer and I have already created a menu and saved it as a project. The problem I run into is that when I press burn to disk it will show the screen as if its is burning and show how much complete it is but it will not burn. The drive does not turn on or anything. I thought it was my drive, so I went out and bought a new one and continue to have the issue. Any help would be great."

The advice given on this post was to create a disc image rather than burning it to a disc and I don't know how to do that. Someone also said to

try burning the saved image file using Imgburn (freeware).

Does anyone know anything about that? I have burned several DVDs just fine and this one just won't seem to work and I can't figure out why. It's no different than any of the the other DVDs I have burned. Any help would be apprecciated! Thanks!

If you are in the Burn Project window, simply uncheck the Burn to Disc box and check the Save Disc Image File box. Remember where the file gets stored so that you can find it in ImgBurn.

In regards to your burning problem, you will have to supply a lot more information. How long do you wait before you decide "the drive does not burn anything"? How long in time is the project? Burning actually takes the least amount of time; it is the rendering of the video into the DVD compliant format that takes all the time.

I have gone to the burn project window, unchecked burn to disc, checked the save disc image file box and I know where it saved it to and then I have clicked burn....It is now burning the project...is that what it is supposed to do?

What I'm basically doing is converting old home videos to DVD. I have done several so far today but this one particular one won't work. With the others I add the videos and make the menus and click burn and it takes about two hours and they are done and the disc pops out. With this one it starts looking like its burning but after about 15 minutes it says it is done and doesn't pop out. When I try to play the DVD there is nothing on it so I guess it's not burning at all. Not sure what it going on. I'm not doing anything different than with the other ones.

Ok, so i have made the disc using the ISO file format, but my understanding of an ISO file is that it is archival. Is there something that I am missing?

I guess what I am trying to ask is whether or not a disc image is primarily used for compressed storage.

Is there some way to make a playable copy of this movie that will play in your average dvd player using an ISO file?

I am really novice, and I am really frustrated. Please help!

If you used ImgBurn to burn the iso disc image file to the DVD then you should be able to play the DVD in your DVd player. If it does not play then you did not create a proper iso file. A iso file is an image of what is burned on a disc. It has nothing to do with compression or archival.

Examine the DVD you burned from the iso file using Windows Explorer. Do you have a Video_TS folder on that DVD? Does the folder contain several files with the extensions ifo, bup and vob? If yes then you have created the DVD and it should play. If not then we will have to go back and examine your project.

So what is different about the video clip that is not working? How long in time is that clip?
