Karaoke DVD Convert to MPEG2 - Missing extra audio channel

SourGrass

Question

I am trying to convert a Karaoke DVD to MPEG2 and break down to individual chapter (song). Conversion was a success but each MPEG2 file only has one audio channel instead of 2 as its original. From the option, I did check all 2 audio channels. Have I missed something in setup?

My OS is Windows 7 - 64bits.

Thanks for advise,

Have you simply tried to extract the audio from the DVD since that is what you are after anyway? Use Music Disc Creator -- from the help menu:

"Importing tracks from discs

In addition to copying tracks from CDs and DVDs, you can also select tracks from disc image files and DVD-Video folders.

Disc image files: A disc image file is a complete copy of a disc that is stored on your hard disk as a file instead of recorded to a blank disc. Valid disc image files include .iso, .c2d (Roxio proprietary format), and .cue.

DVD-Video folders: A DVD-Video folder is a “VIDEO_TS” folder on a disc or hard disk that contains valid DVD-Video source content. The audio from each chapter of a DVD‑Video folder can be added to a project.

To import tracks from a disc:

1 In the Add to Project area, click Import from CD/DVD.

2 Use the Media Selector to select the CD or DVD drive, or locate a disc image file or DVD‑Video “VIDEO_TS” folder.

For more information, see Using the Media Selector, or click Help or press F1 in the Media Selector.

3 Select the audio CD tracks or DVD-Video chapters you want to copy, and then click Add.

4 Optional. Select the import settings you want to use, and then click Save.

Tip: To add or change track information, click Audio Tags.

The tracks are added to the project.

5 To rearrange the tracks, select and drag them to a new location.

Thanks Steve for your time and suggestions. I know this can be done manually with extracting and adding audio to video but I am looking for the solution to automatically rip the DVD into individual chapter (song) with the retaining of all original audio's with it. With "Video convert" function, Roxio has ripped the DVD into individual chapter but has omitted the other "language" audio. I don't know Roxio eliminates that extra audio by design or by my setting?!

Thanks again.

Geez, any Roxio guru?!

Can anybody please confirm that Roxio only produces only one audio channel for "Convert Video" ?

Thanks,

Where did you get the DVD? Why are you trying to copy/edit it that way?

Add one of the VOB files to Edit Video -Advanced, right click on the video in timeline and select extract audio. Save it to your desktop. It will be a wav file. Close out of that and open "Edit Audio" Add that wav file to the Application (Sound Editor). Do you see a left and right channel waveform?

I have about 40 Karaoke DVD's, each has about 12-16 songs (chapters). I want to rip them out to a single song and store in Media Server HD where they can be retrieved and played.

Thanks Steve, but your approach won't work since it's still resulted in a single audio channel and required manually edit and would take me forever to finish this project.

I guess I have bought the wrong software. I am evaluating River DVD QuickRip ... look promising...

Thanks,

Aren't Karaoke DVD's converted Mpeg 2 Video Format DVD's?

What software made the Karaoke DVD's?

cd

Not sure about the question...

I bought these Karaoke DVD's from the stores and I am not sure which software was utilized in the process of creating Karaoke DVD. I believe these are just regular DVD's but has 2 audio channels, one with only instruments and one with instruments and vocal.

Explore one of these Karaoke DVD Disc's, do you see a empty audio_ts folder and a video_ts folder with ifo, bup, and vob files?

Yes, there are two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.

AUDIO_TS folder is empty. There are several VOB's, IFO's and BUP's files in VIDEO_TS folder.

Are you saying that in Sound Editor there was only a right or left audio track and not both? That would indicate that the second channel is not there.

Steve, Sorry that I have confused you. I meant there are 2 different audio tracks per Video (i.e multi languages).

Yes there are left and right audio but it's not what I meant.

I think in Karaoke DVD creating, they use multi language to control when to hear vocal and when not to hear vocal. With Roxio "convert video" it has omitted the other "language".
