Using all storage space on blank DVD after burning samll file

Tuck1930

Question

Software - Roxio Creator 2010 Special Edition, version 1.2.193 SP2 running under Win 7. PC has 8.0 GB of RAM and an AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor

I copied two folders of DVD files from my hard drive to two, 120-min/4.7 GB blank SONY DVD+R discs. When I right-click on Properties for the first disc, the pop-up window says used space = 4.685 GB, free space = 0. So far, so good. To complete the project of copying two folders of data, Roxio Creator asked me to install a second blank DVD, again a SONY with 4.7 GB of available space. Creator burnt one file of 100 MB on the second DVD. When I right-click on Properties for this DVD, the pop-up window says used space = 100 MB, free space = 0.

In the past with other PCs i noticed that after burning files that are small in relation to the capacity of the disc, be it a CD or DVD, that was it: I could not use any of the expected free space. The Properties pop-up window said there was none available.

Is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks, Tuck

Depending on what program you used to copy and your settings, that is normal. What program did you use to copy the DVD? Did you request to have the DVDs appendable so that they would stay open to allow more data to be copied?
