Burning Video

Godschild

Question

I missed one of my regular television programs that we normally record. On their website, they allow you to record the programs daily. I downloaded this to my desktop. When I try and burn it to a dvd, it either acts like it is burning the dvd, but doesn't, or it comes up with the following message: An unrecoverable device error occurred. Error while encoding Movie 1. When I click on the details to see the error details, it just states the same as above. Any clue as to why it will not record this program? Permissions are given to record these programs. I have tried DVD +RW and DVD +R. Both with the same outcome. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. PS...I'm new to all of this, so please spell it out for me :) Thank you for any suggestions :)

It took forever to download that file and it was only about 90 mb. However, I didn't burn to disc, I burned to an image file and I had no problems at all. So, the file can be copied and made into a dvd.

Are you using MYDVD to burn your file? If not, please explain the steps you took to get your error.

Thank you so much for doing this for me! The first thing I did was downloaded it to my desktop, because I was afraid I would miss the cut-off time to download that episode of the day. Then I went to Roxio's Copy and Convert. I chose the correct file on the From side, and on the TO side, I chose DVD-R/DVD-RW. Hit the Go button, saved it as an ISO disc image. (That is what was highlighted)

I think I also tried Burn Data Disc, and Create DVD's.

Create DVD's should work but I never burn directly to disc as to me, it's always a 50/50 shot at best. I burn to an image file then I use VLC Media Player to check the file to see if it plays well. If so, I use Roxio Burn Disc Image to burn the file to dvd.

With My DVD, you have control over the menu, you can make chapter settings or forget all of that and just burn it to dvd with no menus so it starts playing as soon as you the disc is read by your player.

It is possible though that you can have a bad download. If it plays on your computer, it should work fine in Roxio.

Does it play in Preview? How long in time is the video file?

What type of file is it you downloaded? It may be a divx file and if so, Roxio won't accept it.

I'm not sure what message you would get if you input a non compatible file.

C2010 still accepts DivX files, I do it often. You just can no longer output to DivX

Ah, you are right Walt. Thanks for the correction.

Hello, Thank you for your reply. It is a WMV file.

Godschild, Walt's questions is important so please answer it but would you mind giving me the link you are getting these files from and let me try a few things on my end to see what happens?

Hello :) I did answer his question, hope I'm doing this right :) No, I don't mind at all! I would appreciate it greatly if you would check out this site: http://www.shepherdschapel.com/index.cfm

Once there, I click on the Broadband Media. From there you can choose to download to Windows Media File, or Real Media. The instructions on how to download are on the left. Thank you so much for checking into this for me. It is much appreciated :) I chose to download one of the programs to my desktop. From there I sent it to Roxio, because if you don't catch it right away, it would no longer be available and would be replaced with the next days airing. Hope this helps :)
