Clean up Audio

Awrightus

Question

So I just started converting some old albums. Using the "Clean up Audio" feature definitely helps get rid of pops and noise, but I'm finding that it's really dulling the lows. Aside from the ocassional pops, the audio sounds much more clean and dynamic by default. I'll take the pops over what I perceive to be a more dull sound. Just curious if there are any other simple suggestions to try. I don't think I'm interested in spending a massive amount of time on each album, so I'm probably inclined to just take things as they are. But if anyone can suggest some simple things based on experience, I'd be curious to hear some thoughts.

If you have the Roxio C2010 Pro version, it comes with a program named "Soundsoap" SE2. You might want to try it for cleaning up your audio files if you have it. Has a little learning curve but does a pretty goog job of cleaning audio files.

Looks like I just have the regular version. Thanks though.

Are you letting the filters run as you capture the music? Or are you capturing with all the noise first, and then running the noise filters in Sound Editor? I prefer the second method because you can fiddle with the controls to get them set before committing anything, and you can always go back to the "raw" capture to try again.

There are controls for the clicks and pops and for the noise filter. It's a balancing act between removing noise and removing music. First thing is to try and turn the noise filter off and just go after clicks and pops. That may be enough to make you happier. Otherwise, turn down how "strong" the controls are set for, leave a bit more "noise" along with the music.

Hope that helps!
