Video Copy & Convert Stops Responding

AlG

Question

Windows 7 x 64 bit - all updates installed

MSI P7N SLI Platinum (750i chipset) - latest nForce Drivers Installed

2 x 2 GB 6400 RAM

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz)

eVGA 9800GTX (512 MB) - lates GeForce Drivers Installed

Running Creator 2010 Pro.

I am trying to burn an iso that is 4.35 GB large onto a disc using Video Copy and Convert. It runs fine until reaching 99%, and then the program stops responding with Windows asking to shut it down.

Then my DVD writer is no longer able to recognized any discs inserted, and is not useable by any of my other programs to open files or burn to. So I have to uninstall the drive in device driver and reboot, and then the DVD writer is fine again. I have an internal SATA DVD burner, and an external USB DVD writer, and both give the same results.

I have used Video Copy & Convert to burn similar iso images in the past with no problems. This problem started a few days ago and it happens each time I try now.

Any thoughts on what I can do to cure this?

Thanks,

Al

I set MyDVD to create an ISO to a file for a Dual Layer DVD on HQ quality, but I uncheck the box so that it will not burn it, and it just sends the ISO to a file. If the source is too large or too long, then it does warn that it will trunkate if you exceed the capacity of a DL DVD. The length of time seems to depend on more than just time, but I did an ISO that is 2 hr 37 minutes using this method on MyDVD, and the ISO was 7.35 GB. Then I used Copy & Convert and it compressed it and burned it to a single layer DVD. It was pretty decent quality on my TV.

Now something appears to have broken. I can still create the ISO's but when I do the compress / burn using Copy & Convert, it stalls at 99%, and then the program stops responding. And now I can't burn any ISO at all from Copy & Convert because it does that regardless of what ISO. I can burn an ISO using the Data option from the start page, but it does not compress it.

Sorry, this got a little sidetracked. I was also trying to burn 4.35 GB ISO's using Copy & Convert, and even that doesn't work now. So there is something wrong with Copy & Convert for burning ISO's. It worked fine, and then it started having this problem, and has not worked since.

If your 2hr 37min video created a 7.35 GB iso file then you could not have used the HQ settings since that would have given an iso file size of near 11GB. C2010 will not create an iso file at HQ quality if the source file is longer then 120 minutes.

This thread got totally sidetracked with this whole question about compression, etc. It seems to have become a debate, but is not getting us any further along with diagnosing the problem.

The issue that I posted for, and still need help with, is that Copy & Convert has stopped working.

It appears to be working until it hits 99% completed, and then the program stops responding.

This occurs with ISO files that are larger than, equal to, or smaller than 4.35 GB.

For files less than or equal to 4.35 GB, they burn with the Data Disc in Roxio, and they burn with other programs, so the ISO files are fine.

Would it be possible to get some help with the problem I was asking for help with in the first place?

Turn off your anti-virus and do a repair from Windows Add/Remove programs or do a full uninstall/reinstall. Look for it in the support tab- Support Home at the top of this page.

Problem Solved

Thank you. It works again!

Turned off the virus scanning. Went into add/remove programs, and told it to repair.

Thanks again.

90 - 150 minutes.

You are probably OK with the 90 minutes but too much at 150. Best you can do on a single layer is around 120 (2 hours) and it will probably look terrible. What don't you want to use a double layer disc? They don't cost that much more. You may have a slight pause when your DVD player switches layers but at least you will be able to see what you have burned. Most DVD player will play double layer.

Pretty much the end of this discussion. There is no way around these limits unless you get into folder sets. You can get slightly more with those. I don't remember the exact times.

With earlier version you could have done DivX but this version does not have that options. Of course your player would have to be able to play DivX DVDs.

Have you tried burning the ISO file from the Application on the Home page?

What is different with this ISO from the previous ones. Can you burn one of the earlier ISO to a RW disc using CCV?

When was the last time you did any computer maintenance? (Get rid of junk files, defrag, etc)

Having a similiar issue. Copy and convert hangs and stops responding at Phase 1 of 1 at 100% and I have to shut it down using task manager. Im am very disappointed I paid this much for this software only for it not to work properly. Running Win 7 64-bit if that matters any. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks

Yes, I can burn an ISO from the home page. But sometimes I am looking for compression which is available in Video Copy and Convert. This was able to do it, and then stopped working for no apparent reason.

Don't know of any significant differences between the ISO images. All of them were DVD ISO's created with MyDVD.

My computer is set up to do weekly maintenance / back up. This includes defragmenting the hard drive.

I did not know that burn disc image from the home page would not do compression to fit on a DVD. How much time are you trying to put on a DVD? Perhaps you have more than the program can compress.

No, it won't compress using burn disc image from the home page. When I tell it which file, it says DL on the destination. When I insert a single layer DVD and tell it to burn, it gives a message that the source is larger than the destination with no option to continue.

I have done this before with Video Convert, and I have tested it with something that has worked in the past. So it is within its capability. All at once it has now decided to stall at 99% done, and the program stops responding with Windows asking to shut it down.

Again, how much time are you trying to get on the DVD. Yes, I forgot that CCV has the ability to put a DL on a Single sized disc.

I was able to do this before. I tested it on ISO files that did work in the past. The program has suddenly stopped working correctly, but it did work on these exact files a few weeks ago. Therefore, the program has stopped working correctly.

Is there a flaw in that logic? I said that I have done this before, so it is not logical to tell me that the program can't do what I have already stated that it has done in the past.

The source is DivX, and I used MyDVD to convert the DivX file it to a large ISO file, and then (when it worked in the past) I used Copy & Convert to compress and burn the ISO image. It actually looks pretty darned good on my high def TV.

So you put 2 1/2 hours on a DVD; good for you. Since it worked before and doesn't work now WHAT DID YOU DO to change that? New programs, updates, etc? If you made the ISO files before, why don't you just use those?

Since you seem to be giving us only half the story, someone else will have to do some guessing.

If you created an iso file from a source file that is longer then 120 minutes the you must have used one of the lower quality settings since C2010 (or previous versions) do not allow you to create iso files > 2 hours at best (HQ) quality.
