Roxio Creator Clasic 2010 fails afer xx% with SCSI Device not installed

Question

Hello, I hope this post finds you all well.

Though I have been a memeber of the roxio discussion group since 2008 and do read the entries from time to time I have never needed to post or ask a qustion, most of the problems I have experienced with CD creator I have managed to sort out using the suggestions from the posts. That is until a few weeks ago when Creator Clasic 2010 started throwing error messages when burning either DVD's or CD's.

Depending on the amount of data to burn (around 21% when low volumes upto 97% with high volumes), the software CD Creator Clasic 2010 fails with SCSI Device not installed.

This happens regardless of the quality of media used, however checking the media after the failure the Data has been written and can be read back from the media though I have not tried to read the data from another PC, just the one the data was written with.

I have all the updates for Roxio installed even the PX engine suggested on another thread, though I am not sure if that was needed as Roxio correctly identifies the two Sata drives I have instlalled.

1 x LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50-TN02

1 x HL_DT_ST DVDRAM GH22LS250 - TL02

The error occurs using either of the drves and the drives are to the latest firmware, I am using Windows 7 64bit installed on a Nvidia 680i board, Intel QX6700 Quad Core CPU, dual Nvidia 275 Graphics card, 8gb Memory and 3 x 500gb Sata hard drives with Raid 5 stripe.

One thing that is puzzling is that Creator Classic will create ISO image of the Data which then will burn correcly, so I don't think the problem lies in the actual burning process and as i mentioned a few lines back the problem started to manifest itself a few weeks ago, probably after a Windows update.

Hopefully someone may have an idea what is causing the problem or even a fix.

Well

I removed all nvidia drivers from the system and allowed Windows to redetect the Hardware, (did not mean to delete them all the drivers wanted to keep the GC and network drivers, didn't read the message box correclty so unsalled all of them drivers, hey ho, senior moment).

Widows detected devices and reinstalled all but the graphics card drivers, I am assuming as there was not actual network the drivers must be part of the windows install image. After a reboot the system detected the graphics cards and downloaded them from the net.

After installation and a further reboot and what I assume to be default storage divers from Microsoft. I tried the Creator Classic. No joy got to 25% burn and the software lost sight of the writers (using CD's they are cheaper than DVD's).

Downloaded all the versions of hardware drivers from Nvidia version 15:35,15.51 and 15.53

installed each one in turn, run CD Creator and burnt the same files to the CD, though each % done increased slightly cd crator classic still lost sight of the writers.

I also got accused of Piracy by Microsoft, after the final install a message came up saying the copy of windows was invalid, strange that I bough the copy directly from Microsoft, are they now into Piracy as well  though this was quickly fixed with a reboot,Though I had to reactivate Office again.

I'm assuming that each driver install notches up the hardware flag, though it should not, I have had this problem before with DRM protected software after nvidia gfx driver updates.

So here we are after a few hours on a Saturday Morning, with the wife saying you should be doing the gardening instead of playing on that thing, what do they know :D , still not able to useto its full extend, not really a show stopper , can wait for a fix from Roxio, as I can work around the problem by creating an ISO file first then burning that to Disc.

Oh, by the way I don't believe this is a hardware problem as the other Roxio software burns correctly, no problem also I cheap burner software called ultraISO also works seamlessly so it that case it must be something todo with the CD creator Classic software and a patch that was released by Microsoft.

Sorry for going on too much and thank you for your advice.

The advice was,

Update your NVIDIA nForce SATA Controller Drivers.

Have a look at this post. Only thing we have found to fix it!

Hi cdanteek

Thanks for the prompt reply, it appears I have the Latest drivers from Nvidia 15.53, but your suggestion makes sense the drivers were released on the 15th of March 2010 well in the time frame for this problem and given Nvidia's recent track record with drivers it is possible their new drivers are a fault.

Not sure how easy it will be to regress to the previouse drivers, but will try over the weekend ad post back.

Tony

I too, had the same error message start to occur recently after running Roxio for over a year on this machine (Win7 32bit). I also had recently installed WinAmp v5.572 Build 2943 Pro Pack (a couple weeks ago). Not sure when exactly I started having this SCSI device error message showing up (busy with vacation and such) but just now started researching. I burned a Data mp3 DVD, would get the unable to complete the burn message (referring to the SCSI device not installed). Attempted to finalize the disc manually only to find that the disc was already finalized. Put this disc into this machine and found the burn seemed to be complete. Took this disc elsewhere (work) and found that it would not recognize. However, further inspection found that it would be recognized on a machine that had a SATA DVD but not an EIDE DVD player. Strange, so now I look here, see in a post that WinAmp might be the culprit. I uninstalled this program but that did not work. I then saw the NVidia driver update as being a possible solution. Went to their site, did the auto detect for my machine. I found Display as well as MB driver updates. I installed both and VOILA, success.

Thanks to all for the solution. My burns are now good and complete. BTW, the burner on this machine is an LG WH08LS20 Blu-ray burner.
