Videocap_USB_X64 driver failure

Josh Korn

Question

I've run into a variation of the same problem.

The VIDEOCAP_USB_X64 driver fails, with a completely unexplicable error:

Action start 21:53:01: MsiProcessDrivers.

DIFXAPP: ENTER: ProcessDriverPackages()

DIFXAPP: ERROR - The operating system you are running on is not supported. Only Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows codenamed Longhorn are supported.

CustomAction MsiProcessDrivers returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

There's no question I'm running the Windows 7 installer (v5.0), so this is totally illogical.

Any ideas as to what I might do next?

Thanks

Josh

Tried running install from command prompt to bypass installation of Videocap_USB_X64 but the install goes through with installation of USB Video Driver anyways. Is there any other way to bypass the installation of the USB Video Capture Driver which doesn't seem to be compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks

John

I'm running the Windows 7 64-bit edition. I've done two complete clean installs and the problem remains, unchanged.

Based on the reading I've done, it seems that it's necessary to get the Creator 2010 installer to work in Compatibility mode.

The settings for doing this aren't available on Windows 7 x64.

I don't see anything that says that Creator 2010 won't install on 64-bit Windows 7, so is there some other setting that achieves the same result?

Interpreting the most obvious sign of a problem - the error message itself, it looks like an old version of DIFXAPP is being used. I wonder if that's fixable.

Any ideas?
