beginner user woes

Question

Hi - my brother made me a DVD of some audiobooks that he assured me are in mp3 format. He put it on a DVD because it's so many books, it would take 30 or 40 CDs. I put the DVD into my computer and up popped Roxio onto my screen, so I used it to save the DVD onto my desktop. Then I tried to click and drag the icon into itunes, but it won't go. When I double click on the icon, I see a menu about burning CDs, etc. I don't see the names of the books and all the chapters that I know are on there. I'm really a beginner at using computers, so I'm sure this is a simple issue and I'm doing something wrong! I listen to books on my ipod all the time, so I like having them in itunes. Can anyone help me?

I'm still trying to figure it out - thanks for taking the time to answer! I'm not sure I should even be using roxio for this application. . . I did manage to display all the files as mp3s, copied them into a folder on my desktop, used itunes to add a folder and added them to my itunes lilbrary, put them on my ipod (where they did work) and then tried to play them in itunes and it said it couldn't locate the source! Itunes asked me to show it the source, which i did, but it said nothing was there - - this is why people hate itunes, I suppose - - at the moment I'm stumped, but can't spend anymore time on it for now - - I really appreciate your help!

Don't use iTunes. Use Roxio Media Manager to move the files directly from the folder to the IPOD. In Media Manager, use split screen. In the top screen, point to your plugged in IPod and the bottom screen, naviagate to the folder. You can then copy up to the folder on your IPod.

Try calling iTunes tech support at---1-800-275-2273 (You will need to have your ipod S/N handy) They will help you with adding your own audio files to your iTunes music files. However, they won't be able to help with anything regarding Roxio--sorry

If you open Windows Explorer (right-click on "Start" and select "Explore") (see picture) and then display the DVD you have, what do you see? Do you see folders with familiar names? Can you find MP3 files if you dig deeper? Without looking over your shoulder (which is a bit impractical via a forum like this) you have to be our eyes and ears (and fingers) for what you see.

So, if you can tell us a bit more about what you see on the DVD, maybe someone can come up some better ideas.
