Can someone help me please?

CeceliaT

Question

My 12yo just bought the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD at Best Buy. The salesman told him that he'd be able to hook this up to his television to capture the games he plays on his PS3 and save them to his laptop.

I'm having the most difficult time hooking the hardware up. He's got a Polaroid Television. There are several sets of White/Red rca jacks, but no additional yellow ones; and nothing that says "out".

Can someone try to help me please?

Thanks!

Cecelia

[i'm sorry ...

It's a Polaroid

My mistake in my rush to post the previous message while I was running out.

I'm kinda brain dead ...

If someone can kindly tell me how to post a pic here, I can put a picture of the back of the TV.

Thanks

If you know someone with a website that could post your photo, then it could be downloaded from one of your posts given the correct link.

Are you sure that the model is a Polaroid 900T? There does not seem to be any such model on the Polaroid site

I don't think you have a chance of getting the TV I have Jim. I've had it for several years now and I don't think it is available as new anywhere now. I found it by chance just looking at a store in one of our malls and after seeing all of the ports it had on it I decided to buy it.

It has been one of the best small screen size color TV's I have ever had. All of my captures with C2010 Pro, VHStoDVD and my other C2010 program that came with a capture device, have been used for capturing audio and video from this TV. Oh, btw. I just ordered a new digital Nikon camera that can take macro pics down to within 1.2". We shall see ???

Are you please with the DVD player you bought ??

Frank...

The JVC??? Only used it once on the tape side. Got a short cabinet so I can park it under my desk.

Now all I need is some time to get all this done…

One thing I often do with the Macro shots is hold a flashlight or 2 to illuminate the object ;)

As far as the TV, I was just down to the Transfer Station yesterday dropping off used motor oil and batteries… I should have checked to see if they had any of your TVs in the pile :D:lol:

Cecelia,

Please ignore the people who are using this topic to chat to each other, if you can. :angry2:

Your tv appears to be a Polaroid FLM-1911 19" HD-Ready LCD TV with an NTSC tuner. Is that right?

If so, this is a clip from page 12 of the user manual. Does yours have this plug array on the back, just above the stand?

post-208-1271333917.jpg

If so, I'm afraid that the only OUTPUT connection this TV has is the earphone socket on the left edge, just above the lower left corner. :(

Page 17 of the manual shows you how to connect a DVD player INTO this TV, but there doesn't appear to be any way a user can get a signal OUT of the TV to feed to somewhere else.

I'm sorry, but the salesman at Best Buy was wrong. You can't use Easy VHS to DVD with this television.

Regards,

Brendon

Frank:

Thank you for your input (no pun intended lol)

Here's the ports that the television has ...

on top:

PC IN serial port / Video L R (Yellow/White Red RCA Out) / Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (Green/Blue/Red RCA Ports)

under the PC In I have a L R (White/Red RCA) / Under the Video I have a S-vid L R (White Red RCA) and under the blue/red RCA I have L R (White Red RCA)

The Yellow RCA didn't do anything; but then again, I don't know what L/R to put the cables in to.

I've hooked the S-Video up and then I've tried the White/Red in all three other L/R ports.

I truly appreciate your input.

Looks like the ports you mentioned are all input ones. No port that says "OUT"?

What brand and model is the TV; maybe there is a description of this model available online that you can post?

Look in the owners manual/user manual for the OUT jack. There may not be one, not all TV's have them. You might want to get a friend/relative/co-worker who has some basic computer/electronics knowledge to give you some help.

Yes, that's my television. Oh well...guess I'll have to try to return everything that was bought for this. Not sure that my 12yo kept all the receipts/boxes. I'll see if one of my other TVs have out ports that he can hook up to.

Thank you very much for all the help!

Thanks for all your help.

We still are not able to get this to work ...

The TV is a Panasonic Model 900T

I've already enlised all the friends/relatives that I could with the same results. I've got some pretty savy tech gurus as family/friends and all of them have come up blank.

You're right, there may not be an out port.

Thanks again.

Very interesting Cecelia. If there are "THREE" sets of RCA red and white ports on the TV, I can't believe they are all "OUT" ports. Why would the TV need 3 sets of the same kind of out ports all in the same area. I have a TV that has the same kind of ports but one set is on the side of the TV and the other set of the same kind is on then back of the TV.??

I agree that you should look in the owners manual to see exactly what each of the RCA ports are for. Sometimes if there are several sets of red and white RCA ports on a TV, it could be that what you see as "out" or "IN" can be confusing do to the way the ports are situated.

To bad you can't find a way to post a picture of what the RCA ports look like on your posts.

I checked on the internet for a "Panasonic Model 900T" and there was no model number for a Panasonic TV that could be found.

I looked at my TV's and I don't have a single one with any Video Out???

One simple TV has Audio Out:

Another, more complex one, has lots of ways IN but only Audio has a way out:

Of course a DVD Player has a couple of ways Out:

Guess you need to get one that has a video "OUT" port Jim  I use my Video Out, audio (red & white) audio Out ports all the time on my TV for use with Roxio's C2010 pro program. (Photos of TV Model and Ports attached) If you would like any more information Jim, I'd be glad to post it.

Should I post details of my Camera?:D:lol:

Actually I hate it for anything but Macro shots! For that, it is the best one I have…

(you know I ended up buying that JVC VHS/DVD recorder you recommended :angry2: )

To start with you have to install the program (VHSto DVD) by first placing the USB capture device that comes with the program into a USB "in" port on the computer (preferably one in the back of the computer). Then place the installation disk in one of your DVD drives and follow the instructions to install the program.

The capture cables that come with the capture device have 4 different cables. One red RCA, one White RCA, one yellow RCA and another S-Video cable. Your television has to have red and white RCA OUT ports and either a yellow RCA OUT port OR an S-Video OUT port. Hook up the corresponding colored cables from the capture device or the S-video cable to the TV ports.

Turn on the TV and open up the VHS to DVD program. You should be able to see both the blue horizontal audio graphs. You should also be able to see a small screen showing the video portion that's playing on your TV. Click on the record button and start recording. When completed click on the stop recoring button (square black button).

If the TV has no "out" video ports, you won't be able to capture any video. Also your computer device manager (under the line "Sound, Video and Game controlers" should show the program driver that was installed.

Frank: The program has been installed according to the directions. The capture cables that have been hooked up are the S-Vid and the red/white rca. The TV has 3 sets of red/white rca out ports. I've plugged in the S-vid and the red/white rca in all three different ports and the program still says "no signal".

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. I'm very frustrated right now.

I'm guessing, but if your TV has 3 separate sets of red/white "Out" ports, are you sure they are all "OUT" ports. That doesn't sound right. Usually there are red/White RCA "Out" ports---red/white RCA "IN" ports--and a yellow RCA port for Out and In. Then there could also be another colored set of RCA ports and they usually are Red, Blue and Green, but you don't want to use those.

So make sure that the Red and white RCA cables coming from the computer capture device are definitely plugged into the "RED and White OUT" ports on the TV. And the yellow video cable coming from the computer capture device is plugged into the "Yellow RCA OUT" port on the TV. Instead of using the yellow RCA cable you can use an S-Video extension cable from the computer capture device to the "OUT S-Video port on the TV. I would try the yellow video cable first however and if that doesan't seem to work then try an "S-Video" cable.
