sknis
I waant to backup all my files so that I can restore my computer. How do I do so? Are you doing a simple restore? Windows will do that and not wipe out your data files. What other type of software do you have on the computer? Why do you need to do a restore? lynn98109
I waant to backup all my files so that I can restore my computer. How do I do so? You didn't say what Operating System you have, or which Roxio Suite (or something else). However, if you have WinXP, you can use WinXP to copy your files to CD-R. (RW media is fine for things like testing, or moving files when the orignal file is on the orignating computer - but NOT a good idea for long-term archiving.) If you have any of the Roxio suites for Windows from V.5 onward, you can also copy the files to DVD-R. (Again, don't use RW media.) DO NOT use anything that requires you to format the disc (maybe the Vista Version is safer but I'm not about to test it). Use a Sessions-based program to make a data disc, and be sure that you can read the disc on another computer before you make any changes on the first one. (This takes care of the problem I've seen from time to time where someone makes a layout and burns the layout instead of the files - keeps the grocery list and tosees the groceries). This is something you should do from time to time anyway, just in case the "impossible" happens and you suddenly find you are unable to use a computer. Also, be sure all downloads are backed up as a data disc. Lynn PS: a "backup program" such as Back on Track will make a file intended for an emergency restore of everything on the computer. It is usually not accessable without having the same program installed, or having a boot floppy or CD. It is for a different purpose than archiving files such as .doc or .jpg, etc. I didn't realize that, but was lucky and my Hard Drive was restored to life and I didn't need it. I try to spread the word, because I've seen posts by people who made the same mistake and weren't so lucky.
bimicher
I waant to backup all my files so that I can restore my computer. How do I do so? What do you mean by "backup"? Does that include all installed program files, just the data files or what? Waht do you mean by "restore"? Install the operating system again, ie. start from "scratch"?
