Muliple Divx Files With Menu On A 4.7gb Possible?

andyloc

Question

Hi

I have several Xvid/DivX files, I want to put these on one DVD, but I want a 1st menu screen which allows you to choose which Movie to play.

I have dvdSanta which does a great job of DivX/Xvid to DVD but it makes them one movie.

I want a choice on a menu screen which to play, its for the Kids, I want a movie which is eg Star Wars 1 and Star wars 2 on one DVD but a menu to choose which to play.

Can EMC 8 do this? I have Cyberlink PowerProducer, which goes great, add the 2 DivX files, made a menu with the 2 thumbnail buttons, but then it makes the DVD 11Gb rather than what I chose the 4.7Gb option.

Is this possible on EMC 8? ie 4.7Gb size?

thanks

Disc Copier is fairly good aat transcoding although I've never tried squeezing 4 hours on a disc. Use a DVD RW disc and give it a try. Let us know how it works out!

No... I don't know of ANY video editor or DV authoring that supports burning DivX DVDs with menus. Of course, that may change if the DivX players ever gain much popularity.

thanks for that, so it doesnt look like it will do it in one go sort of speak.

That was another option with what I thought about Cyberlink PowerProducer, ie let it do its stuff and then do a Nero Recode/DVD shrink on it to compress to 4.7Gb, it looks like thats what Disc copier would do in EMC yeh?

I know what your saying about the quality issue, but it was something I was going to try and see what it was like.

I might buy a DivX DVD player, so another question, can EMC make a muliple DivX DVD, with a menu to choose the relevant DivX movie for playing?

cheers

Yes you can. You can create a 1st play menu which can then take you to another menu showing all your titles. You can also set one title to play right after the first title without going back to the main menu.

Thanks for that but will it definately keep the files set to the standard you choose, ie 4.7Gb, Even when you add 2 or more DivX files to the project, ie will it encode for the given size of 4.7Gb no matter how many files are addedde?

As I say on PowerProducer I tried this and chose 4.7Gb on the 1st screen but it still wanted to goto 11Gb

cheers

If you burn the project to an ISO file (image) then use Disc Copier to burn that image, it will transcode the piece to fix on 1 disc. I've not tried any bigger than 7.5 gig myself and 11 seems too big. However, you can try using the 'fit to disc' in the project settings box. I prefer to use the Best Quality option and let the project burn to an image as large as it wants, then allow Disc Copier to compress to fit. However, 11 gig may be out of the question. Don't know if anyone's tried something that large with success. I do remember an old post stating they did it with about 9 gig but I'd expect the quality to be somewhat less than VCR quality but I'm just guessing.

Andyloc - DivX files are highly compressed format. Comparatively , MPEG2 which is used for DVDs is not as compressed so the files will take up more room. EMC8 only supports bitrates down to 4.5Mbps which at the absolutely lowest quality is only about 140 minutes. Using MyDVD, you can not get around this limitation. However you do have to other options:

1) follow ths suggestion above. Have MyDVD create an ISO that would fit a dual layer disc and then let Disc Copier compress it.

2) Instead, start with Disc Copier and use the video compilation feature. Has been awhile since I tried it so I'm not sure just how it far will compress.

Trying to put 4 hours or more on a single layer, 4.7 disc will not produce very good quality results.
