Problems burning iso file

rdrck

Question

I am having the same problem here with one exception. The burn reaches the 98% mark and hangs for me. I am burning ISO images and no matter what size the image is results in the burn hanging at 98% completion. I have used Memorex,Maxell as well as Verbatim media to no avail. I know that the program worked in the past as I had used it to burn ISO's to the media mentioned before. Looking through system resource monitor shows the app. appears to be still running with high memory usage along with my printer software?! I tried suspending the printer software but this didn't change anything. When I try and cancel the burn it recognizes the command to stop but stays hung showing cancel. Windows does not show the app as non-responsive within task manager. Tried disabling my AV software thinking it might be accessing the media, or burning app results in the same. I am going to try a "clean boot" to see if this helps and will post any results. Hopefully someone can get this resolved, as I have a $100 retail price piece of useless crap ATM.

You have not supplied much information Where did the iso file come from? What program from C2010 are you using to burn the iso?

Download the free image burning utility called ImgBurn and see if that will burn the iso file to DVD.

I am trying to burn a Linux OS ISO as well as a firmware update using Burn Disc Image as well as trying Creator Classic within C2010. I can successfully burn both images on a Linux based PC using native apps in Linux. As a update I tried doing a clean boot in Windows only allowing Roxio/Sonic apps and services to start on boot. The end result is the same with the burn stalling @ 98%. On the Linux based ISO I can check the integrity of the burned disc burned w/ Roxio and it comes back as OK. All sectors apppear to be written to disc and the data is intact but as stated by others, something is not allowing the burn to close out properly. I hope we/somebody can get this fixed and soon. My main prodution PC is Windows based and I like Roxio to burn w/ because it is versatile. It's kind of a pain to push a burn project to a network drive and go to another PC to have to burn something.

Topic split off original post by admin/mods. Original posting : http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=60936 Update: I just burned roughly 5.5 GB of straight up data rather than a ISO file w/ no problems apparently. Posted in original because the end result was the same

Your post was split since it had nothing to do with what the OP was doing. He was working with video.

BTW, how do you manage to burn 5.5GB of data to a 4.7GB DVD?

I understand on the reason for the split, posted because the end result for both burns was the same, the burn project hanging @ 97-98%. I did not intend to hijack the thread, sorry for any confusion created by doing so. The last burn was split over 2 disc and was a data only burn, not a ISO. I am presently downloading a different ISO to test a burn. I tried an older ISO for Windows I had previously downloaded and it seemed to burn OK. After I re-download it I'll try burning the latest ISO to see if it works and post the results.

It would seem that anything I burn that is a DVD works and if it is a CD does not. I am starting to suspect that it may be the media. The DVD media I use is Verbatim and the CD is Memorex ATM. I'll pick up some Vertbatim and post any change. I have checked the firmware on the drive and it is the latest available from Lite-On.

UPDATE: I just burned a fresh ISO using the Memorex media w/ no problems using C2010. I don't know what is going on but unless the issue shows up again, call this issue fixed?!? The only thing I can think is something from within Windows was causing a conflict or a issue with the ISO files themselves. Thanks to myguggi for the input.

Memorex media is generally (at best) flaky - you may find some discs from a batch will work while others won't.

Also, keep in mind that there are TWO lasers in a drive - one for DVD and the other for CD and it's quite possible for one to start to fail while the other keeps working

I'll probably pick up some Verbatim anyhow as I have always had pretty good luck w/ it in the past. The only reason I had the Memorex was the local store was out of Verbatim media. As far as one of the lasers failing in the drive, I hope not. It's relatively new and has not seen a lot of usage. Time will tell on that note. Thanks for the advice.
