mydvd movie burning issues

KimK

Question

I have created my movie in mydvd, all plays well in the preview. When I burn back to a dvd, it will either leave out a few pictures - or the music will stutter and stop then pick up and the stutter again, or one of the pictures on the menu will not show up but the others do. It is never the same, and I have burned this project about 30 times and have not gotten a good burn yet. I have tried both dvd-rw and dvd-r, I have tried at reccomended burn speed and slowed it down. Nothing works. I even tried to burn to an ISO then back to a dvd (using Roxio and imgburn) but it said it was not a valid file format

I never had this problem in my older version but this 2010 version is most frustrating, I am running vista 32bit with an intel 2.0 proc. and 2 GB RAM.

What is the problem here, am I missing something?

I just finished and viewed te software rendered version of my production - there are atleast 30 missing pictures in the production! GRRRRRRRRRR! This is my BIGGEST source of frustration, why I cannot get my pictures into the dvd instead of blank black boxes and long

I just updated the vid driver, and am burning again, we shall see if this takes care of the issues.

I am going to the burn option in mydvd, and selecting to save the file as an iso

Thanks for letting me know that some trans are not available in softweare rendering mode, and I will try on verbatim dvd to see what happens.

What program are you using to burn the iso to DVD?

I had the same problem when I first used Roxio EZ Creator 8. This may not solve your problem, but a friend clued me in to this solution.

Are you using the native photo files? If you are dropping in the photos straight from your camera, each photo is probably 3-5 MB each. My friend told me these large files may cause the program to freeze when encoding.

Although it is an extra step, it has worked for me every time. Try resizing your photos in a program like PhotoShop. You can downsize them to 4 inches by 6 inches at 150 dpi. These files will then by about 100-200 KB each and the Roxio 8 burns them with no problem.

My friend said even high-def TVs are like computer monitors and really only have 72 dpi resolution. You can even downsize the photos to 72 dpi, because anything more than that is overkill. Your finished DVD will have great resolution on your TV.

FYI - When I first contacted Roxio with this same problem, I got the same runaround. "Update your drivers, etc." I don't know why that seems to be the standard response. Simply resizing the photos before using them worked perfectly.

You friend would be completely wrong, the size of the file has absolutely nothing to do with it!

The format of the picture can… some cameras use a non-standard format. One clue to that is when edited/re-saved picture work and raw ones do not.

Otherwise, the last post by KimK indicated that the Repair option resolved her issues.

No I have not YET....... - I can see the progress encoding and see that the pics are not making it to the dvd or the ISO, so until I can get a good burn in either an iso or a dvd, then I will either burn back the iso or make copies of the dvd. Once I can get a good iso then I will install the player so I can view.

Yes I am using RW's :)

I will try using the avi's instead of the VW productions and yes I am now using the HQ setting instead of fit to disc.

Thought I would post back the resolution to this problem. After trying all the suggestions above (and thanking all for so much help) I finally did a repair of the progream and viola! I was able to do all as expected.

I hope you are at least using RW DVDs when you do your burns

Did you download and install the VLC player like I suggested? It will allow you to play a iso file before you burn to a DVD. That way you don't waste any DVDs or the burning time.

What happens if you use the avi file in myDVD directly? Are you still using the "Fit-to-Disc" setting?

I will try adn find it, but my main complaint is that I cannot get even 1 good buirn either to dvd, or to iso with all my pictures on it! I have burned adn reburned this project upwards of 45 times now and cannot get one time all my pictures to play. If I have a slide with say 3 pictures 2 will show up and one won't. The project will show a transition to a blank slide and then the transition to the next picture. At last count I had 30 pictures missing on the last burn. I started another ISO but cancelled it when I started to see things missing. Same with the last DVD burn. This is frustrating, I have checked my VW productions and they play completely fine, I have saved the VW productions into avi and they play fine. I have recreated new menus, and readded all my VW productions but it still loses my pictures.

I have updated my video drivers - turned off AV, restrated, shut down, I don't know what else to do. But the bottom line is that I should not have to do this 45 times in multiple formats to try adn get one decent production. This is to be a graduation gift for my daughter.

Can you look at the DVD you burned with ImgBurn and list what files are on the DVD? They should have the extensions ifo,bup and vob.

When you use software rendering some of the transitions and effects are not available. Have you updated your drivers for your video card?

Again, there is no formatting of DVDs when burning video DVDs. When you get that message you are propably using RW DVDs and the program is actually asking to erase the DVD. What exactly are you using to burn your iso file to the DVD? It seems you are using the "Roxio Burn" icon from your desktop. That will not work since all it creates is a data DVD which cannot be played on any DVD player.

BTW, Memorex discs are bottom of the barrel.

Understsand the quote responses, that's my way to make sure I answer each question and completely. :)

PC Specs are Vista, Intel 2.0 dual core processor, 2 Gig RAM, nvidia GE force 7900 GS, Roxio 2010 (with the SP updates), with hardware rendering I had errors such as menus with thumbnails that when burned as black boxes and missing pictures on slides and os overlays, ie one slide with 3 pics as overlays, 2 show the third does not. This does not happen all the time, it is random. The dvd adn the music will stop/start, ie like a streaming issue while trying to watch a youtube or cnn video. I changed to software rendering and the job lost 90% of the transitions I specifically set, and the last burn 3 pics on 2 slides did not make it on the dvd, the music issue was resolved tho. I did not try and make an ISO with software rendering yet, I hope to tackle that today.

The ISO I rendered with the hardware, did not play when I burned back to a dvd -either in my Vista computer (you are correct about vista wanting to format it) or my sony player, it said that it could not play the disc.

I have used 2 different types of media, Verbatim and Memorex, and both dvd+rw and DVD-r.

I am frustrated that the VW production as I made it is not being burned back to the dvd the way I created it.

KimK: I would find it easier to follow if you just answer the questions separately rather than tinkering with a Quote…

I think the “Format Disc” is a Vista response to blank media. I know Win7 will react that way to blank discs unless you turn it off –

Listing you PC Specs would help.

Try the things that Walt suggested and I would also suggest in MyDVD, setting Tools-Options-Render, to Software instead of the default it goes to.

You can download the free VLC player from this site. Besides playing almost every type of video it also allows you to play iso files you have created before burning them to a DVD. You simply drag the iso file and drop it on the VLC icon. If the iso file is Ok it should play. If it doesn't play then the iso is bad and the problem lies elsewhere. If it plays correctly then the software worked properly and the problem is in the burn to DVD process, the burner or the media. Did any of the burned DVDs play on your computer? YES THEY ALL PLAY ON THE COMPUTER AND IN THE DVD PLAYER WHEN USING THE ROXIO BURN TO DISC OPTION, THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES, SOME PICTURES AND SLIDES JUST DO NOT MAKE IT TO THE DVD (THE LAST BURN HAD 2), THE MUSIC AND PICTURES STOPPPED STARTED, GLITCHED, NOT SURE WHAT TO CALL IT BUT IT WAS LIKE WATCHING A VIDEO ONLINE THAT WAS STREAMING SLOWLY. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS IN THE LAST 2 BURNS, BUT THE PICTURESTHAT ARE IN THE VW JOB DO NOT MAKE IT TO THE DVD, AND JUST SHOWING UP AS A BIG BLACK BOX HAS ME PUZZLED. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO OVERCOME TO GET JUST ONE GOOD BURN OF MY PROJECT. INSANELY FRUSTRATING!

Also do not use the Fit-to-disc quality setting, always use HQ for best quality. MAKES TOTAL SENSE I WILL MAKEE THIS CHANGE.

What Roxio program did you use to burn the iso file to DVD? MYDVD, GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO BURN THE IMAGE AS AN ISO It seems as if you burned the iso to DVD as a data file which would give you the "invalid format" message. I DID NOT DO THIS

You should use the "Burn image to disc" or Video Copy & Convert program to burn the iso file. I USED 2 SEPERATE PROGRAMS TO BURN THE ISO BACK TO THE DVD, ONE GAVE ME THE INVALID FORMAT MESSAGE ROXIO WANTED THE DVD-RW TO BE FORMATTED WHEN PLAYED BACK AND MY DVD PLAYER ON MY TV SAID IT COULD NOT PLAY THE DISC

I dont understand what you mean by this "WHEN PLEAYED VIA THE COMPUTER IT WANTED TO FORMAT THE DVD". You should never have to format a DVD especially not when playing a DVD. SEE ABOVE.
