Region Free Blu-Ray

djrone

Question

OK so I have understood that we are always burning region-free discs in Toast 10.0.7 as DVD or Blu-Ray. Here are my questions:

1. NTSC and PAL are only used in the program to change the burned frame rate and aspect ratio right?

2. Does this NTSC/PAL setting really affect resolution when burning BD from 16:9 source footage? What DOES it affect in this situation?

3. My source material is progressive 30fps. NTSC is 29.97fps for SD. What does Toast you consider NTSC progressive frame rate for BD?

4. What is Toast doing with the frame rate of my original 1920x1080 30p source footage during conversion?

5. So my ultimate question is - to produce the maximum world-wide region-free compatibility for blu-ray discs should I choose NTSC or PAL? To ensure the best conversion what, then, should be source footage frame rate be at to prevent drop frames, duplicate frames etc during the conversion process?

Framerate and frame size (for SD). Aspect ratio 16:9 vs. 4:3 is unrelated to PAL/NTSC.

For High Def the resolution is unaffected by the PAL/NTSC setting (1920x1080, 1440x1080 or 1280x720).

The best match to 30p is an NTSC framerate, imho.
