Question About Volume Envelope For Audio Objects

BrianR

Question

In Creator 2010 Pro, VideoWave, I've added an audio track selected from SmartSound. It spans a photo slideshow with some video interspersed. I want to drop the volume for those timeframes where the video has its own audio.

I'm having a problem when I click on Edit Volume Envelope for Audio Objects. Here's the sequence:

1. Where I want the sound to reduce, I create two of the little green balls (mouse pointer is a hand with +)

2. I place the pointer over the second green ball (mouse pointer is a hand with *) and drag the green ball down.

3. What I get is a third green ball where the second was, although the volume is lowered for the green ball I was dragging.

Now I have extra green balls littering my volume envelope, whereas I had no problem with this in 2009 or earlier.

Is there some sort of option I need to change to fix this?

TIA for your help.

I think you are just not being careful???

The 'fingertip' must be inside the 'square' before you drag:

I would use 4 'balls'... I would place 2 a few seconds outside of the 2 that define the area you want to change.

That way they give you a transition in volume to the new level.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am using four balls as you suggest - I didn't want to clog up an already confusing narrative.

I will work with your suggestion, but here's my confusion: I thought that the pointer changing from a '+' to a '*' signaled that I was on target.

While I'm checking that out - how are you inserting your screenshot? Are you using a site addressable by URL, or is there a better way? Did you simply attach the file?

Thanks!

One other question - how do you get rid of the errant extra balls?? :D

Thanks Jim. I'll attach a screenshot of my issue below as a test.

On my PC, clicking in the box and moving it doesn't fix the issue - perhaps it's resulting from a funky interaction with other programs. If you haven't seen it, then I can't believe that it's an "undocumented feature". B)

One other question that didn't make it in my previous post is - how do you delete the extra balls that are showing up in my case?

Right click on the "ball" and select delete. You are editing in the timeline mode; Jim is editing in the audio editor which is easier. Double click on the native audio track to open the audio editor.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for responding in this thread - you've always given me good advice.

I'm able to delete rogue balls (or points :D ) at will now, though with a slight mod to your directions.

First, I need to select the point so that it changes to a point in a box. Then I right-click the box and select "Delete Point" to successfully delete it. If I use the "Delete" or "Cut" options in any case, the entire audio gets deleted.

Interestingly, the Delete Point option only goes active when a specific point has been preselected, which helps explain why I missed it.

I still get a new point when I move an existing point higher or lower. I can now delete the extra points, plus I also see that clicking on the timeline and dragging down both creates and moves a single point.

Thanks again to you and Jim for your help - you guys are great!
