Flac File Problem

51514brad

Question

I purchased a bluray music disc (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Mojo") and it included a digital download of the same album so that I may burn a CD to play in my car, a CD player or DVD player. When I start a new CD project in Roxio and try to drag the flac files into the project, I receive an error message that tells me the file is incompatible. Ironically the message includes a list of compatible file types and lists flac as one of them. I have other flac files (a band named Works Progress Administration or WPA) and Roxio accepts these flac files without any error message. Any suggestions to fix this problem or what may cause Roxio to accept some flac files and reject others?

Also, I occasionally receive an error message telling me that Roxio cannot find a file named "CPDP.msi". I purchased the program online directly from Roxio; it is not pirated or copied and as far as I know, I have not deleted anything. Sadly, the thirty days in which I am permitted to download again have already passed. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to offer me some assistance.

Hi 51514brad -

In addition to Jim's questions, are there any other formats that are included on the disc? Like MP3?

My guess is that the FLAC files are multichannel (5.1 surround) and are not supported for stereo burning and Roxio doesn't have the ability to combine 6 channel audios files down to stereo.

If you can contact the manufacturer of the disc and see if there is a stereo option, then that may solve the problem.

Otherwise, let us know what you find out about the files and options so we can help other people.

Jon

I have never done one of these, what do the instructions say for this download???

Have you tried it with Windows Media Player?

Mate, I had the same problem and I suspect you will find that the FLAC file you're trying to load into Roxio is 24 bit. FLAC files can be either 16 bit or 24 bit. Roxio will load 16 bit FLAC files bur will NOT load 24 bit FLAC files. My workaround was to load my 24 bit FLAC files into Audacity (one of the best free audio editors) and then export them to 16 bit FLAC files which you can then load into Roxio. If you use Audacity make sure you click on the Option button before you hit save on the Export screen. If you've selected your export file type as FLAC you should seee options for 16 & 24 bit.

Good luck!
