Problem With Video Strobing Light And Dark

c75mitch

Question

I have just got this product and am using it to copy my old Hi8 camcorder tapes. I have successfully copied 1 tape with out issue, but with the second tape is strobing light and dark.

I have tried connecting the camcorder to the TV and it plays fine with no strobing.

I am using a Mac, i7 quad 2.8 with 8gb ram so that should not be an issue.

Any help/advise gratefully received.

Mitch

Hi Cullen -

What hardware are you using to capture the video?

Also, are these PAL or NTSC tapes? Were they all created by the same camera/equipment?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi,

All tapes were recorded in SP on the same camera and are PAL. I am using the Roxio Video capture USB.

I have found a way around the issue which is to copy the video to VHS and then import from the video recorder. Take twice as long but is working :)

Thanks

Callum

Hi Mitch -

If the first one worked fine, I'm willing to bet it's that particular tape - maybe the playback speed is being hampered creating some sort of scan/refresh issue? Have you tried a third or fourth tape?

Hi Jon,

I have tried further tapes and am finding the same problem with them flashing dark every few seconds. The strange thing is that it does not do it when viewed on the camcorder, or on the TV. It only happens when trying to copy onto the mac, which is why I thought it was an issue with the device or software.

Best regards

Callum

I'm having the same issues going from VHS tapes into the Mac.

I think the issue is the entire picture seems to jump up/down about 4-5 pixels and the converter is flipping out about it.

In version 1.0 of the software the picture jumps up/down about 5px (which is normal for a VHS tape) but when it does this the audio breaks up a bit.

In version 1.0.3 of the software, the audio remains fine but the video goes dark and strobes a bit.

I'm going to test and see if it does it with my bigger more expensive EyeTV box...

They are not commercial tapes, so I doubt MacroVision is causing it???

If you have not recorded in SP mode, the output signal of LP or less may be too weak for the converter to get a good grip on the signal.

Are you running the V2D for MAC software? (we may want to move this Topic)
