Why Don't My Burned Dvds Work In Older Dvd Players

CBSPECIAL

Question

Not sure what is up, can burn and play on my newer portable DVD player, but they don't seem to work on my older DVD attached to my big screen TV.

Running Win7 and Creator 2010, never had this problem before I upgraded to Win7 and Creator 2010.

‘plus’ or ‘dash’ media?

Verbatim or store junk?

How did you burn it?

Check the specifications on your older DVD player to see what type of media it will play. Many of the older DVD players will only play DVD-R media and not DVD+R. Most all of the new DVD players will play either one. So as Jim has suggested regarding the DVD you burned, check to see what type media you burn your DVD on ?

The disk themselves are from what I used in the past that worked - Sony DVD+R 4.7 1-16X

The DVD player using to view is a Mintek 1600

and options that I've tried is about everything - tried to convert to WMV and burn

It wasn't this hard before!

Steps followed:

Create DVD

Selected DVD

Add file

and burn

When that didn't work then I tried a bunch of different ways and still can't get a DVD to play on Mintek and yes I can play other videos on the device.

Based on what I have read about that particular DVD player, there has been several problems regarding the "Region Code" that it has been set for. Google that particular DVD player and you will find many websites that give information about it's problems NOT being able to play DVD's.

Mine is set for Region 1, and it's the newer model and can't be changed to region free.

Simply stated, there is nothing in Creator 2010 or in Win7 that would change the burning…

Sony has never made a disc, but they seem to buy good stuff to put their name on…

It would be interesting if you could try it with a DVD-R disc. Check around and see if you can locate a single disc or 3 pack of Verbatim ‘dash’ discs…

It is possible that your older player is susceptible to Bit Setting on ‘plus’ media… Using the ‘dash’ like I mentioned would test for that.

Roxio does not provide a way to address that, as it is pretty rarely needed these days.

Give us some details on your PC like you see in the sig block that Frank & I use. Make sure you include the make/model of your Burner.
