No, you can't change any setting while in the middle of a capture.

A standard 4.7 GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video using the"Best Quality" setting. So will never be able to put 2 hours of video on a DVD using the HQ quality setting. You will have to use lower quality setting if you want more video on the DVD. At the low price of DVDs, its worth putting the video on two DVDs to retain the quality.

Personally I would recommend not to use the Plug&Burn and instead capture to a file on the hard drive. If there is a hiccup during a plug&burn you would have to start over again as well as probably also create just another coaster

OK thanks for the excellent advice on the capture to HD. If I do burn to two discs does V2D prompt in any way such as"disc is full, please insert new disc and hit continue"?

What 'Type' of DL disc???

Your burner will only burn 'plus' (+DL).

It is not capible of burning to 'dash' (-DL) media...

Jim - thanks. My CD/DVD drive on my Compaq Presario F700 is shown in control panel as being: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TSL632H ATA device. The discs Im using are Verbatim DVD+R - 4.7 GB, 16X, 120min; they are not dual layer nor do I believe my laptop is capable of using a dual layer disc. Another thing. I don't believe my version of Roxio V2D is capable of doing "chapters" on the DVDs I'm making. At least not on the straight copying of old movie VHS tapes. Is this correct?

It's a OEM Drive look it up at Compaq, don't they have a service tag for identification of the specific PC like Dell?

They are the only ones I could find, Memorex DVD +R

"Memorex DVD +R" are not Dual Layer (DL) discs but standard 4.7GB DVDs.

BTW, Memorex is not considered a good quality product.

OK… I think that is how most manufactures designate them – either as DVD+R DL or as DVD-R DL.

I didn't really check that when I typed my question - my bad :(

I think you probably have the correct media, but frankly that burner has been an iffy item since it was brought out and is no longer in production… As far as Memorex goes, I don't even allow it in the house :P

Where to go from here???

P&B is a really bad idea. Everyone in this thread has advised against it. It is time to take the advice!

Let's see if you can burn a DL disc with that burner.

Capture a 2 hours or less as we have advised. (an 8.5 will hold 2 hours and it is best to stay a few minutes shy of that)

Use MyDVD and burn it to File (ISO) instead of a disc. Clear the checkmark by the Burner and put one by FILE. Not the location of where the file will be or Browse it to a location of your choice. You will need this file later.

Download this free program ImgBurn and use it to burn that DL ISO file you created.

This way will test your Burner & Media and if it works you won't waste a disc doing so!

Let us know what happens.

I have version 1.1.124 with Service Pack 2 added. I too can't see how it is possible to record any VHS tape that happens to be longer than 2 hours. Do you have to use 2 DVD's, if so, how does that work? Will software prompt?

Also, is it possible to change record quality in middle of a recording when you see you will not have enough time left at "Best Quality"?

I have 1.2.198, which upgraded after install to SP2, running on Windows XP professional service pack 3.

As I said when using dual layer DVD immediately get ./DSBurner.cpp(1491):***error 80004005 = m_spGraphMgr->StopGraph()and program hangs.
