Question

I just installed Roxio Creator 2010 twice. The first time I got the message, I tried the repair route. That didn't work so I uninstalled and installed again. Same thing -- Like so many others, I am gettint this message -- "The certificate file is missing or has been corrupted. Please re-install it."

What is the or a certificate? How does one go about getting one, installing it and/or re-installing it.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Read/try this. If the first options doesn't work, use Revo Uninstaller in the MODERATE Modeto remove the software and then reinstall it.

You jumped in on a post for EMC 9, yet you say you have Creator 2010....which do you have?

Did you follow the instructions from the Roxio site or just did it from your add/remove programs.

My name is Bill.

I have an older Dell Dimension XPS which I upgraded to Windows7. I also purchased a 500 GB external dreve and RAM upgrade (8GB). Unfortunately, though the technician who helped with the order was a very nice guy, they sent me 8 x 1GB sticks. After I received that, I got back to the same tech. He said the problem was in the US (Tennessee, I think) and they will make the necessary adjustments this week. Bottom line: I'm still working with 2GB RAM.

Here's what I did -- before and after I jumped in on the wrong site --

Before: Like I said, with a bit more detail -- I installed the program using the Roxio Creator Special Edition 2010 installation DVD. After a couple of hours with that, I tried to opened Video Wave Productions and clicked on Edit Video - Advanced. That's when I got the no certificate message.

After: I spent another hour, looking into certificates. Then I went back to basics, uninstalled the old fashoned way and tried to repair the installation . . . same result.

Then I found you and learned (maybe I should say I heard) about the "clean" approach.

With that, I uninstalled (again using Windows uninstall function) and started with the instruction: "Disable your startup applications using MSCONFIG. From there I followed the instructions as close as I could. By "as close as I could" I mean since I had uninstalled, much of what the instruction assumed I would have to eliminate had already been eliminated. Finally, I installed from the DVD again (this was the third time), that time with (I think) happier result.

About 12 hours after I started: I installed again, rebooted, selected Video Wave Productions and clicked Edit Video - Advanced. Voila!

Thanks for the help and again I apologize for being in the wrong area. I would not have gotten this done without your help.

Do what you will with all of this. I have a couple of ideas, but I will keep them to myself.
